Whats it worth

I keep hearing/reading about"whats it worth".often times its a piece of equipment that is not too common.Often all people think is
'Money"!I dont understand. Is 'our' quoted price the determining factor weather you buy it or not?I figure if you want it or need it bad enough you will 'pay thier price'.If someone wants to sell something bad enough they will price it right.I figure there is always "common ground",where both partys are happy.I under stand people dont want to pay "too much",or "give it away".What is you guys stand on this?Sorry for the rant.just being weird,I guess. Thanks,Steve

I've found that when I put something on craigslist with the price and don't get any calls, the price is too high. But if I put something on, and one minute after it hits the air my phone rings faster than I can answer it, I've priced it too cheap.

It's just human nature for the seller to try and get all he can out of anything he sells and the buyer wants to buy as cheap as he can. If I have something I want to sell and don't have a clue as to what it is worth, am I wrong to ask someone what it is worth or should I just sell it for half of what I could have gotten for it if I had known the true value. If I price it too cheap the buyer isn't going to tell me it's too cheap but if it's too high he will let me know it immediately. I used to work for a car dealer, his motto was, price it HIGH, you can always come down but you can't go up. By the same token why should I give you more for something than the guy down the road that has one just like it for sale. Nobody pays sticker price and everyone wants to feel like that he got a good deal. I never tell anyone what my bottom price is until I see the Cash.

.....and we must always remember , the one with the power to ultimately set the value is the one holding the green-backs. There's a few people on e-bay that list their "valuables" for 20 days with a buy-it-now or make an offer that refuse to aknowlege said law of the market. They just re-list for another 20 and tell me I'm wasting their time. Well , Bucko , I still have the money and all you have is a paperweight.

I understand, everyone always wants to know value & there's 10,000,000 reasons for it. They have that right & I wont argue it. But... my answer, verbally to the computer screen is, "Free, just park it in the driveway with the rest of the stuff". Still waiting for someone with a 33, 35, or 3788 to do just that. With my luck, it'd be hot. :v(

It depends on who has what, and who needs what. I had a pickup for sale years ago,one guy told me that he wouldn't give me 5 dollars for it.(I gave him 30 seconds to get off my land) He bought the truck a week later for 500. more than I had really wanted. It just depends..... supply and demand

Price is often based on how fast you want something to sell. Low price/ give away = fast sale. Fair price often equals long sale time to find the right buyer.

I try to sell on the low side so I don't have stuff sitting around wasting my time for long. I try to buy on the low side too, so if its junk I'm not out too much.

Intersting!!!! Few years ago I found a M-M jeep called nxt or something like that. I had no idea what it was worth. The fellow I bought it from priced it at $500.00. I though it's different, paid the 500. Advertized it here , sold quickly for 2500.00. Was it worth a lot more???? probably, however it went to a find fellow who is a serious m-m collector. It completed a collection which his father had started. I now have a good M-M friend. I made 2000.00 in a quick time. I was very happy. fellow I bought from was happy (he thought I was nuts paying him 500.00) the M-M collector is happy. Later a fellow tried to tell me how stupid I was. Well 400 percent profit and friendship is not bad in my book. Conclusion Ues what ever seller and buyer are happy with is the fair price at that point in time. Years ago at the stilesville sale I needed a small dozer for my business. I asked one of the regular buyers what the dozer was worth which would be sold in a few minetes. His reply well its cold snowing, economy is good, lots of buyers here--- tell you what in 15 minutes I can tell you exactly whats it worth here today !!!I have always rembered that advice.
