ok thAnk for the info on the jubile and the hay bailer question, I been looking a good to buy anthoer tractor, Dont want to start a color war , but which tractor would do for the haybailer , do not want any JD WHAT SO EVER, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AROUND FORDS, EXCEPT when i helped my uncle and his JD THANKS

Ideal in an older tractor would be an Oliver- S55, 550, 77, 88, etc. They have an independent PTO, which is even better than live. "Live" PTO generally means a two stage clutch- push halfway down, and tractor stops; Push the rest of the way, and PTO stops. Independent means the PTO is controlled by a separate lever, completely separate from the tractor propulsion system. Later Fords, Masseys, and ACs have "live" (AC is a little different- used a 2 speed hand clutch with neutral in the middle. I baled a lot with an AC D14, and it worked fine. Gives you a no-clutch high-low tractor speed, as well).

Don't know how the older IH tractors are set up.

I use a AC WD. The hand clutch is the cats meow for running a baler. Another option would be a 400-560 series Farmall, they have live pto where as a H or a M doesn't. Don't have any experience with Olivers but have a buddy who swears by them.

My father in law had a WD45 that he always baled with and had to use the hand clutch because the ground speed was too fast. My dad had a MF50 having the high and low ranges you can just gear it down according to your windrow size. I really think my FIL would love to have used the MF to bale with. I know which tractor I use to bale with. Good luck and happy baling.

if you are going to bale very much go with a little extra hp what ever you buy, most people used 30 to 45 hp tractors to pull a baler with when i was growing up one man used a D-10 ac every time the baler cut the tractor would surge no telling how much he baled thru the years as a custom baler none were very high speed until a neighbor bought a 666 diesel best i remember with mf baler it was amazing to see him bale beforehand we could stay right along with the baler loading it until we got a load not with him he'd run off and leave us you didn't see that one surge every time the baler stroked either

I agree with going for a little extra hp. I do like the wd because of the hand clutch but the baler really moves that small tractor around. I spend a lot of time stacking behind my father inlaws 3020 and that is a whole lot better. Has plenty of power and weight that the baler surge doesn't affect it.

Bigger Ford? If you like the Fords you'll probably get along with Massey Ferguson's (same but different) A lot of IH's from the Super MTA on in the 50-80 HP range that can be had reasonable. Olivers & Minnie Mo's, or a Minnie Mo or Oliver painted to look like a Ferguson (at the factory) Some folks like the orange ones, I havn't been real impressed with them. And of Course there are a lot of Case tractors that would fill your needs. It's about what you can buy right that fits your needs and still get service support on. By the way Ford Case & IH are all on big family now. Allis, Oliver, Minnie Mo, White and Ferguson-same Family.

I have been using a '56 or '57 farmall 300 with a hayliner 270 bailer. I do about 10-15 acres. If there's hills the tractor can't keep the trailor held back to allow the old bailer enough time to munch the hay, but I make due. Also, when the bailes are on the chute with the weight to the rear of the bailer, she bounces the tractor a bit during the cycle. That's probably what you guys were talking about.

If you are a Ford guy, A 6610 is the best all round
Ford. My neighbors south of me have 3 of them and a
4000. One of them might be a 5000. They are big
enough that if you eventually get a large round
baler 4 by 5. won't have to get anything bigger. I
have a 6060 AC I bought new and I love it, but it
is not as good as a 6610 Ford.

lots of good options. depends on how much you want to spend and
what kind of features you are looking for. A ford 5000, 7000, 6610,
7610 are all good tractors. If you like the masseys a 165, 180
would work good and if you like olivers you could use a super 88,
770, 880, 1550, 1555, 1650, 1655. The 1650 and 1655 have a 3
speed for each gear which is really nice for baling hay. You can
change speeds on the go without clutching so you dont have to
clutch when the hay gets thick.
