The neighbor had a semi trailer broken into and a lot of stuff was stole. We went to the scrap yard to check and while we were there a JD Corn binder came in on a trailer (still had some paint and was pretty straight looking) and also a IH,parts missing but looked like a 10-20 maybe?? Sad to see them taken there

I live within 5 miles of a large scrap yard. It is unbelievable, what they get. They have not scraped just to name a few pieces I saw today, that run and work. A giant skid steer rubber wheel dozier. the tires are about 6 ft tall and 30in wide and the blade at least 12 ft wide maybe 14 ft. A running B414 tractor. 3 giant dirt pans with 12V 71 engine in front and 6 71 in rear. 2 big rubber tired loaders. 8V 71 engines. F800 Ford Truck 429 engine, air brakes. 1800 gal fuel tank on it. 2 or three tamdem dump trucks. a almost perfect K2 Gleaner combine, both heads. Somebody did save the Gleaner. The list goes on and on. Most of this is coal mine stuff. The neighbor next to it has almost filled up 2 acres with Case Tractors 970 to 1370. and IHC diesel trucks. You can't save everything. Vic

The sad thing is it costs more to restore an old tractor than it's worth. So why do we do it?

I think that it's sad that people sell it so cheep to the scrapper then complain when they can't find a used part. most would get 2 to 3 x scrap price selling it as organ donors

I had to haul off some large actual garbage metal. The stuff was truely beyond repair, mostly appliances. While I was at the yard, I saw a Cockshot, what looks like a 20. Everything was there, and it was awaiting the melting pot. I couldn't help think but do they even know what they are getting ready to meltdown into Hondas? My wife isn't thrilled about the work I am doing with My Case/DaveBrown 990, so trying to get it would be foolish, but I understand what you mean. I have gotten plenty of good stuff from trash. I had a Brunner Compressor, I pulled out of a field in Lockport, NY. My trailer is a reconditioned one that sat in another field. My disc plow, and several others are just stuff that I find & fix. A lot of times I don't need what I'm working on, like a Manure spreader, I'm trying to aquire, but I love those old machines.

A lot of that big stuff can be worth more as scrap now unfortunately. Watched an old D-8 go for 7500$ at auction. It was exact price the yard was paying for that weight. The owner was sitting on the machine while it was auctioned, he told me he advertised it for months in a heavy equipment seller at 6500$ and no one touched it.
