i want to use my sharp 450 paint gun today to paint a tractor but i can't remember the correct air pressure for this old gun, i think 35-40psi. is this correct? thanks in advance, chuck

it sounds like a siphon feed gun. i would start out at about 50 psi air pressure, and spray a few test patterns. most paint products will give approximate pressures on the can also. adjust accordingly until you get a real nice fan pattern.

It would depend on what paint you are spraying. An alkyd enamel like tractor supply sells the pressure would be 40-50 pounds. Some automotive paints are as thin as water. 20 to 30 pounds would be better for them.

It would be better if you stay away from alkyd enamels, especially if their red or orange. The color will fade very fast.

It should say somewhere on the paint can.

Otherwise, 40-45 pounds is a good place to start. You may have to experiment a bit to get the pattern you want with the paint you're using.

I have 3 quart size cup spray guns and each one has a different air pressure it likes ,all between 45 and 65 Lb"s on the regulater scale.I also have a top feed gun that i hoped when I bought it that I could go to a lower pressure setting with but ,no,I am using about the same pressure settings with it as I do with the other cup guns.45-65 Lbs.I prefer to spray Acrylic Enamel if available .If possible I buy my paint mail order from Trinity 1945,Co.
