Back in the 1960's I lived there for two and a half years. There were very few wheeled tractors there at that time. There was one good sized dairy farm and they used the modern farmalls. The rest all used crawlers in the Pineapple and sugar cane fields. Dole (pineapple) and C&H (sugar cane) were the big companies.

There were a lot of cattle on the big Island, but the cattle were on pasture all year. I don't remember seeing any tractors there.

I was there 4 years ago on Oahu and they were using Steigers on the pineapple plantations. I saw several seed corn research plots also.

Here while back I was doing some research on the Doolittle Raiders (had a distant cousin that was flight engineer on plane #7) and found this pic of the USS Hornet coming into Pearl Harbor in May of '42. Not sure what kind of tractors they are.

In 1998 the Cat D 9 were the tractor of choice for ripping the lava also the orange ones from China. The grower would buy them in WA state and have them shipped over for less than he could buy one on the big island.

There is a fellow on the Ford board that shows up on occasion - Mike something. Has a 3 cylinder 4000 in HI. I don't remember what he does with it though.
Always signs his posts Mahalo.

Guys, Tractor related, Back before Easley trailers merged with Wilson trailers of Anson, Tx. (1980s) They (the old Easley Trailers of Hereford/Amarillo,Tx) shipped I know Shipped at least 4 or 6 Easley Gooseneck trailers with their Classic Cone nose to Hawaii. for a couple of cattle ranches there.
Later,
John A.

I am in Michigan. About 17 years ago we sold an Alis G that was to be shipped to Hawaii. The buyer claimed that Hawaii imported many of their vegetables and he was going to start rising produce for the local market.

The one on the right (with the fenders over the wheels) is an Oliver Industrial '50'. Maybe both of them, but the decal is plain as day on the right one.
