Spring Wheat?

I have heard of spring planted wheat, how early do you plant it and when is it ready to harvest? Can you sell it the same as winter wheat or does it have to be kept seperate? Trying to find a way to have wheat ready to harvest mid Sept. in NW Ill for a working farm show. Any info would be helpful, Thanks, Chris
 
I have planted spring wheat every year all my life. I'm in So. Mn. Here we plant it as soon as ground is fit. The earlier the better. If you plant it after may 1st you will really lose yield. It has to be kept separate from winter wheat. I haul all mine to flour mill about 40 miles from here. Everything has to be just right at mill. High protein, but not to high, test weight above certain level, moisture just right. Deliver with semi-truck only. Now that I'm writing it, it reminds me that it is a pita. I've had loads rejected for to low protein, to high protein, and wrong delivery vehicle.(750 bushel quad-axle truck) Needs to be SEMI-TRUCK. And if semi is one pound over 80,000 gross he will be rejected too.
 
Has to be a semi? That certainly seems odd. . .

But they reject a load if its over 80,000 gross? Now, that's just ridiculous- are they just messin' with you? Why on earth would the weight of the load make any difference?
 
minn has a law if some one overloads or takes delivery of freight from a overloaded truck the shipper and or consignee can get a fine for the overload
 
Another case where guvment should just mind their own business. Ticket the overweight truck- the elevator had nothing to do with it.

So whats the overweight truck supposed to do, turn around and go home and throw some off? Guess I'm not understanding how that's going to help prevent undue wear on the roads.
 
We always had some spring wheat on the homestead.
Was planted at the same time as oats and barley an harvested right after the other grains. Primarily fed it to the chickens. It was really fun in the days of bindering and shocking. (NOT)
