My quad quit.....

Hey folks,
harrowing the pastures the other day and the quad just stopped like it ran out of gas. Put it on reserve and finally got it started, made a few more rounds and it bogged out/quit. This time, no start and a little "psst psst" as it turned over..... Was foggy and getting dark and I had other stuff to finish so left it set. Then went back later to try. No start and the same noise. Chained/locked it to a tree and it's still there. Gotta get it and try to figure out what is wrong this weekend.
Does the problem sound familiar? Hoping it's just a head gasket

It's a 250 cc yamaha beartracker

Thanks for any tips,

Dave

You sure? Sounds like its a chinese clone of a Yamaha
Beartracker...

The psst psst might just be the cylinder decompressor, it has a
recoil start on it right?

I agree check the Basics first

"Hoping its only a head gasket"

do you have more info other to

think its that, gas plug etc....

I JUST got back in the house from working on my Yamaha 200 Moto4. I broke a rocker arm on that one. Made a ticking sound. Sounded just like a spring was broke in the compression release or something so that something was just slightly tapping against the rocker. Somehow in the whole situation, the timing chain tensioner was bad too,and it jumped timing at the same time and bent the intake valve. Been about 3 weeks getting parts.

Dave,
Check the intake tube at carb. There is a small vacuum line with a brass nipple that plugs into the top of that intake tube. When that pops out you get that psst, psst sound and it don't run.BTDT
We have a Baja 250U that came from PEP Boys thats probably the half brother to yours.

Not one there and don't remember it being there. As soon as I can swing some time, I'll feel if the whole thing may have came out tho.....
