True or false??? Red/Green antifreeze

Define red?

The GM Dexcool (orange) cannot be mixed with Green and should not be mixed with the red "any type" antifreeze. If you do it mix it with green it will turn to slim.

I would not use the GM stuff period. It will crud up (crystallize) on its own over time. Do a search on GM Dexcool and half of the results will be about lawsuits and problems.

Yep talking the GM red stuff and yep I drained my truck radiator and will refill with the green stuff tomorrow. Figure I will first fill with plain old water start it up run it till warm then drain again then fill with the new green stuff. By the way my truck is a 1980 Chev and the red stuff I put in was some I had drained from a friends 2000 Chev. My truck was getting hot so used what I had on hand and guess I should have asked first instead of doing first

yes flushing is good,

i've seen many a cooling system turned into chocolate pudding from mixing dex-cool and green aunte freeze

I put green anti freeze in a 1997 GMC Sierra. It's still thin and green so I don't think it's having any problems. It previously had what I assume to be Dex cool(can't remember colour) in it and I flushed it well and ran water through it for quite a while. (1/2 hour)

Hey old. I would use Green in that year of a chevy. The only advantage of Dex cool is that it lubricates better then Green and it lasts twice as long. I work as a GM monkey and put Dex in vehicles everyday, BUT i use Green in ALL my trucks and tractors at home. Dex isn't bad anymore. The Chevy blazers and other vehicles had trouble with electrolisis that caused trouble. Dex will turn gummy BUT so will Green.

I put green in everything I own if I every have except for the GM vehicles. They will get green when they have to be changed. I've had several cummins trucks. They never get red always green.

(quoted from post at 16:38:33 10/27/11) So is it true that you can not mix the 2 or is it false. I was told if you mix the 2 it will gel up and cause problems.
Thanks

The green one will kill your pets, but the others won't. It is all glycol.
