Things go wrong

When you are in a hurry. Trying to get hay baled before expected rain later in week.
got a late start at field a couple of miles away and 505I Vermeer ropund baler came unthreaded. Struggled with it, gave up, came home to work on it. Twine tube had an obstruction, took tube off, wife suggested dirt dauber nest and she is probably right since I got some dirt out after forcing heavy wire through it. Blew it out and put it back on. After acouple of tries and some skinned knuckles i got it threaded. Better luck tomorrow, I hope.

Have had the same thing with my Vicon...started to keep a 4'+ piece of 12ga copper wire (bare) from an old wiring prject around to use as threading device. Even bent a small hook on one end to thread the twine and pull it through the tubes. Just bend it in half and hang on a bracket when done.

I have had the same problem with my 504 super I. I have used a piece of thick electric fence wire to break up the dirt dauber nest.

As the legend goes, a professor was explaining probability, when he spread peanut butter on 30 slices of bread. He then threw them each into the air. 29 slices landed peanut butter faced down. The final slice stuck to the cieling tile. Professor Murphy then explained to his students what would be the law now bearing his name, if something can go wrong, it will.

i drove past about 10,000 acres of rice straw being baled yesterday in southeast central Texas
...hopefully some of it will be coming to my cattle next week

(quoted from post at 03:12:05 10/26/11) Where in the U.S.or north America is there green hay in October to bale?

Been a warm fall so far here in New England. I decided I was all done haying earlier, but there are some still baling here. As long as it keeps growing, they'll keep making hay. I've baled dry hay as late as Thanksgiving here...

Had the wire on the baler, couldn't run it through. Used heavy stiff wire about 1/8 diameter, persuaded it with a hammer.

More trouble today. Belt got twisted, had chain on tractor to support roller while lowered lid to reduce tension. I recently had new lacings put on and was able to take belt apart and straighten it. Kept me from finishing what i raked today. Did finish what I had raked yesterday. One more clear day forecast, then rain expected Friday, but I'm not going to bet on rain. Best part is I'm baling just across road from house and it's a straight shot across the highway to my driveway.

Southwest PA has many acres of rank, heavy on the ground green hay. Only about two times per month has it been rain-free enough to cure & bale it. First cutting has slumped down and lush green re-growth is pretty as the second and third cutting fields. So heavy on the ground this year that the 256 rake wants to slide and drag. Hung a couple wheel wts to frame of rake, helped some. Probably tough on the gearbox.

Baled 250 bales yesterday. Days too short. Sun was going down, so quit baling with half the field to go. Done hauling in right after dark.

I read earlier you are located in S.C. What part? I am in Horry (pronounced O-rey) County, about 30 miles from Myrtle Beach. I too have been trying to bale hay after the day job. I took off a couple of hours early today and bales 50 roles.
