Well it got here with no problems other then it rides like a tank and got up to all of maybe 55 MPH. Has the soft top so will see if my friend will op for a hard top down the road. No PTO or hyds on it so that maybe fun to add so as to make the bed into a dump bed. Has the auto inflate tire system that I am not so sure about because when I shut it down the front tires started to look soft

check surplus outlets there is a dump truck version of those so pto ought to be possible to add, tires should air up to preset pressure any time the engine is running.

I would go with one of those electric hydraulic pump hoists. I'm guessing a wet kit for one of those trucks probably isn't exactly an "in-stock" item.

I had one with a soft top - I painted the outside of the canvas with fiberglass resin. Other than being cold in the winter, after 8 or 10 years that canvas still looked like new.and never leaked.

I probably have the PTO and a hyd pump laying around here from a couple of old dump trucks I have out by the fence line. Most PTO units are a 3 or 4 sizes fit all and I have at least 3 on hand and a pump off the old dump truck also so the wet kit is not the hard part the making of the hinge for the bed and the cylinder mounts that are fun. But I have also built a couple of dump trucks in the past from road tractors

Only deuce and a half I had experience with had it's military clothes on. In training and in the national guard in the 1960s they were using Korean war vintage GMCs with 24 volt electric system, gas motors with waterproof ignition, and hydramatic transmissions. Not much speed and they developed interesting vibrations on the road.

A surface mining operation near me had WW 2 surplus GMC hardtop dump trucks in the early 1950s until they wore them out. These had straight drive. The Army came out with an all fuel engine in the 1960s but I never drove one.

You must have an M35A3..I didn't think the A2's had the auto inflate..[ CTIS ? ]...I'm trying to get the township I work for to spring for a 5 ton 6 X 6 road tractor to install snow equipment onto..We recently purchased a new Navistar 4300...What a joke..65 grand for a bunch of buzzers and lights....Instead of the nearly $ 100,000 that was spent I figure I can build a serious plow truck for around 35 grand and still have diesel , automatic trans , power steering...all on a truck chassis with under 6 thousand miles on it..

you are making me envious, been saving for one for about a year now,not there yet and the wife said over her dead body,oh well, still saving for one anyhow. bill m.

"Glen's Surplus" in Shelby, Ohio ( "The Shelby Mall).

You need to get on steelsoldiers.com. Everything you need to know about those trucks. Military manual downloads, parts, other parts sources, advice, even actual hands on assistance in some cases.

Drove it about 80 moles. I stopped 4 or 5 times just to get out and walk around a bit. The thing rides like it has no springs and you had to hold the throttle pedal down all the way and it felt like it had 2 extra return springs on it so the right knee felt it big time

Nope not a 5 ton it is in fact a deuce and a half. My friend also is now looking at a 5 ton road tractor so may have the fun of driving one of those in the near future
