Off Road Diesel Dye

Has anyone noticed something in the off road dye attacking synthetic fuel system materials.

I first noticed this a couple of years ago with Behrens steel fuel pour cans. The cans are no longer soldered but now sealed with a clear sealer. Neither gasoline nor non dyed fuel affects the sealer but off road fuel does.

After a couple of exposures to dyed fuel the clear sealant turns pink and softens, eventually resulting in leaks. I returned 4 to the store for new ones before giving up and buying a plastic transfer can.

Now, my 2007 MF 533 (245 hours) is developing leaks at hose connections and fittings having pliable gaskets, e.g., drain plug, brass hose connections sealed withi flat neoprene (?) gaskets.

Anyone else noticing similar issues?

Probably not so much the dye as the bio diesel mixed with the O R fuel, really cleans up the tanks/fuel system and has a tendency to soften some rubber or plastic hoses/fittings. Mostly older equipment seems susceptible to it's effects. Some people use it with no problem and others have a lot of problems with it. May want to check with your fuel supplier to find the percentage of biodiesel in the mix. It does gel at a much higher temp than regular diesel, especially if you depend on the equipment in cold weather.

Good point. I had not thought of that.

So far, I've had no problems with the 1993 Kubota or the 2009 NH but it definitely does a number on the Behrens cans and the 2007 MF.

Kinda like the new gasolines, yeah? If you buy a brand new truck, no problem, but the alcohol tears up the fuel pump on my 1991 Chevy 2500.

I will not go into details BUT...........

Lets just say there are plenty of things that can be mixed with pure from the rack diesel
(by jobbers looking to make a extra buck)
and still allow it to meet government standards.

Have you tried buying your diesel from a different supplier with the same results?

SO green diesel isnt dyed? I dought red dye is causing the problems you are seeing. Its probably the cheap China junk used to put it together!
