You asked: Is anyone receiving letters from irs that do not make sense.

Are you receiving Emails, or are you receiving a letter from the IRS in your mailbox, you know....the big box out by the road?

Makes a big difference. If an Email, it's probably a scam. If it's a letter in the mail, then you may have something to be concerned about.
I learned the hard way, it does not work to ignore the real letters from them. I tried, and they finally just garnished my wages.
That won't happen again.......

Appoligize Letter was in mail(big box)I have checked my returns an phone numbers are correct-Same as on return. Will call accouant tomorrow an get answer . If he has not called i will call phone number on letter. It just doesent seem correct way to communicate mistake if there is one..I do know not to fool big new changed goverment!

Any and all correspondance I get from the IRS by first class US mail goes to my accountant, period. She can figure out what I need to do and I let her take care of sending the money if needed.

I owed the IRS money and bounced a check to them one time. That was a dumb thing to do.

I owed them money and wrote them a check. They are not as quick at cashing checks as some would think. Half a year or more goes by, my checking account is off a couple of hundred bucks to my favor, and I can't figure out why. I go through my cancelled checks and ledger for months, and all is good, except that I'm still off a couple hundred to my favor. Had I searched back a couple of more months, I would have found it, but didn't. I added the couple hundred to my account and went on my business of writing checks. Couple of months goes by, then I get a notice from the bank that I bounced a check, and the check number...written to the IRS a long, long, long time ago. My bank charged $40 for an overdraft, and by the time I got the notice in the mail, they had already ran it through a second time, so I got another $40 overdraft for that a couple of more days later too. And since the check bounced twice, it got sent back to the IRS as not cashable due to insufficient funds. Those guys then penalized me because I didn't make payment by the due date, and on top of that would not take another personal check from me, requiring a certified check from a bank, costing even more.

All in all, bouncing a check to the IRS was a dumb thing to do, and I never made that mistake ever again. I make sure that the IRS owes me every year.

Good luck.

Look up the IRS number in the blue pages, call them and ask what the deal is. It does sound a bit fishy, as if you made $500 more than reported, it isn't likely that the tax would be 100%. I'm aware of the recent political talk about raising taxes on the rich, but, 100%? I'ld also think that they would have asked for explaination, then make you pay if you don't have one.

I've received a few letters from the IRS, and they always explain why they think you owe them money. Did you look at the back side of the letter?

It is unusual that you would be receiving a notice so soon for 2010. The IRS typically waits a couple of years before sending a notice. For 2010, they have until April 15, 2014 to send you a notice, and they like to let those penalties and interest accrue.

Where does it say to send payment, and who is the check payable to? If it asks for credit card information, I'd say scam.

If the letter turns out to be legit, you should respond in writing asking for a detailed explanation. A legit IRS letter will tell you how to do so.

I recieved a letter in the mail which said They owed me mony, please inform them the bank account number that I wanted them deposit the mony in. Yeah I will do that immediately, in a pig's eye.

Update-Letter is in hands of accouant an . Address to send money order or check is Kansas City Mo 64999-oo10. I did check some phone numbers on here an they are ok.I did look at back of letter an doesent explain anything!Atleast one other person here locally has gotten a vauge letter from them too. Want to clarify letters were from US Mail. Will keep all updated in future. For present time will have to wait for accouant to call me.

I wouldn't trust any accountant that far.

I had the same CPA do my taxes for about 20 years. Seemed I always owed a bunch, maybe a thousand or so.

My taxes finally got simple enough that I said "Screw the CPA", and started doing them myself. The first year I did them myself, I got a $900 refund. Six months later, I got a letter from the IRS stating that they had reviewed the two prior returns and found I had overpaid by some $1800. I didn't get a cash refund, they applied it to future taxes, but so much for CPA's.

I now wonder how much I overpaid in the past that they didn't catch.

i wouldn't respond to any e-mail, i told irs i don't have e-mail since i'm not working, so they have to send mail, then i re-check to see if liget....
