OT had to share this

Very interesting. Thanks for posting it. Always thought it would be neat to drive it but haven't ever made it. Not to turn the post political but could you imagine the congressional hearings and environmental impact studies it would take to get something like that through today. The gas pipeline just laying on the ground, wow.

That was interesting. I drove up the alcan hwy. in 1980. It is a beautiful country. The road was about 1/4 gravel at that time. It might be all paved by now. There is a lot of truck traffic on that road. On the gravel road, I learned to slow way down when a truck is coming to keep from getting stars in your windshield. Don't ask how I learned that. Many of the trucks are pulling two full length trailers. They like to travel in packs.
I Had to stop one time for three moose to cross the road. I thought one big one was going to charge my car. He stopped in the middle of the road and looked at me and then reared up, but he didn't charge and finally followed the rest of them. If gas wasn't so expensive, I would like to do it again.

Everything is paved now except where they are working on the road, usually still a lot of gravel just south of the Alaska border. Still purty country, lots of lonely miles.

I traveled the Alcan Highway to Alaska in the summer of 1977 on a motorcycle with 2 other friends. The road was about 90 percent gravel then. It was one tough ride.
