Need some help from the computer gurus,
For the past year we"ve had popups from Mcaffe, saying send error, dont send.So we sent and now, today we went and deleted Mcafee, and bought Norton Version 5.0 tried to load it from the disc, wouldn"t take. Also it wouldn"t allow us to get on the internet. So now we have uninstalled Norton. We"re working off of a small laptop computer sending this message.Would like to get our home big computer to get back to the intern wet. Also when we first turn on our big computer we get an error message of "rundxll" having trouble loading.Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
LOU

sounds like my sons lap top a while ago.same problem with the net, the virus protection ran out, tried to switch to Norton but the old one was trying to force you to re up with them.had to get a tech to fix it.it's got Norton now.

you need to run the macafee removal tool, download it to a jump drive from your little computer then move it via the jump drive to your other computer, install it and then run it. get it here: http://www.newbiesforum.com/phpbb3/resources.php

antivirus programs do not play well together. also the newbies website is very helpful on computer problems. here is the address: http://www.newbiesforum.com/phpbb3/

where from in WI? At first value, sounds like your desktop needs some bench time with a tech. Might have more issues that what's really apparent. I'm in northern WI, around Rhinelander.
That kind of stuff is up my alley.

My tower computer is also down, have been using my old and slow laptop for over a month.

I am using a new to me tower running Windows 7 that just came in today, my old XP machines are going to my computer guru sometime this weekend.

This Dell Optiplex 745 I just got off FleaBay isn"t as good a basic machine as the 740 it "replaces". This one is only a 32 bit, the 740 is a 64 bit with more memory. If my guru can get both my old XP machines running again I will use the old Acer for a while and have him swap the guts from the 740 into the 745. DOUG

I know I am replying to my own message, but just wanted to add that my "guru" is a firm believer in Microsoft Security Essentials.

In case anyone wonders what is wrong with the other computers, the Acer was on a different antivirus.

The Dell 740 was OK until I had Google Chrome issues and I did a complete uninstall of it. It seems to have taken all internet tools with it when it uninstalled, restore won't work, neither will reloading the disc. DOUG

Hi pals,
it's 11:40pm and we're still without the main computer. What a racket Mcafee is.All because the infernal interupting popups that I've complained about for the last 2 years, finally came to a head.Victor went to Rice Lake, and bought a new Norton 360 program.Uninstalled Mcafee, or so we thought, then reinstalled the new norton.Guess what.Norton couldn't accept it.Because Mcafee, has hidden programs squirelled away in the back of the computer, only James Bond could ferrett out.Norton couldn't get into the removal of Mcafee hidden particles,as hard as they tried.Victor found them, and downloaded the removal tool that gets rid of the left over junk, and all the little hoops they make you jump thru to get rid of it is truly appalling.Like putting round pegs in square holes.Well all said and done Mcafee is gone, but still can't reach the internet, because our local carrier says our network drivers are gone, and for them to bypass it would cost us $15.00 more per month on our bill. He!! for 10 months thats $150.00 that could be applied to a brand new computer if need be.Or else it goes on forevere. So friends and neighbors, and tractor lovers,Victor has another job for tomorrow, going to wipe the whole system and start all over again.Originally the Dell was top of the line, all the bells and whistles, you could get on a home computer, and it will be again,or BAM, New computer.Right now were working off a small laptop computer,we'll be back as soon as we can, appreciate all the tips. The good thing of it is we have everything stored to disc.So we won't lose much.Again thanks for all the tips and help.Done ranting, regards, LOU

Well Doug,

Way up north around stone lake,Wi.I'm going to send a question up your alley, its nice to know your so aquanted with computers, explain to me how the network drivers can get damaged during a downloading process??Probably our biggest mistake was letting some rughead get his hands on our computer VIA the internet,.We talked to people Mcafee and our local tech, plus Norton(rughead). The computer was in good shape, except the Mcaffe error popups(read above), what I'm striving for is a turbin and a prayer mat while facing the east(I think) to this fiasco.Well hunt you up on our TOM TOM(popupless) to the name of your alley.LOL
Warmest regards,
LOU

Thanks WFW,
Thats what we had to do,took your advise.Burned a CD from our daughters computer, put it in our big tower to remove the last of Mcafee's hidden program, now it seemed to wipe out the 2 network drivers in the process. Now have to wipe the whole sheabang, and start over.Oh the joys of life with a tool thats supossed to make life more fun and easier.NOT .You have heard the term (wiping the slate clean) well we are about to do just that.
Thanks again,
Regards,LOU

Aloha,
Don't know what operating system you are using but go to the control panel and click on system and device manager. See if there are any yellow exclamation marks and if you find one, see what's wrong and try to clear it.

You need a different internet provider (although I realize there may be only one available where you are). Mine will do free phone-in tech stuff, even if it has nothing to do with their internet service.

I am using a 10 year old version of Word, and it won't accept emailed docx files. Called Compprime, and the guy says "We got a patch for that- I'll put it on a disc for you- stop by and pick it up. We charge a buck for that, to help cover costs." When I picked it up, he said to feel free to call and he'd talk me through it.

Now THAT'S service. I gave him a five.

I took all of the anti-virus software off my computer. In my opinion Mcafee and Norton are viruses themselves. They aggravate me and slow my computer down to the point I can"t use the internet. I"m on dial-up.

Looks like I'm about 2.5 hours east of stone lake.
Network drivers damaged during download process?? Normally it doesn't happen. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say someone was clicking around where they probably shouldn't of during said download, or during the attempted removal of Mcafee, they took out something else by mistake. Easy to do from within the "add/remove prog's" control panel item. If you take out an application that's related to your network connection, then poof - you're off the net. Without network access, it makes remote help impossible. I realize you've had recent unpleasant results with remote access - but that was with someone over seas, speaking English 2nd language, in a job he probably hates and cares nothing about. Opposite of me.
You mentioned it was a Dell? Those are easy to get drivers for. What you need to find is a Service Tag (not express service tag; just regular Service Tag). It's either on a sticker on the top front, or on a barcode in the back of the machine adjacent to where everything plugs into it.
Reply with the ST, and I'll look up the drivers for you. You can then download, burn to CD, and transfer to the Dell. (This is all presuming it's a dell.)
If it's not a dell, reply with make and model if known.
Good luck...
Thanks, Jesse

Lou,
I have used the mcafee removal tool on several computers without a problem. it shouldd not have bothered your driver for your network interface. if you have a recovery disc then you should be able to either do a windows repair or reinstall the drivers needed. there is also a possibility you have some malware causing this. I have seen bugs block the internet in the past. however if you do a reformat and reload then you will get rid of the problems, or should. as long as you have important files saved on a cd or dvd then that is sometimes the best way.

frank

btw: I have worked on several computers for other people that were infected with good results and have just last week built myself a new desktop computer.

The computer, I had before this one, came with Norton. After 6 months of problems, my dealer found Norton was the trouble. My dealer (M.A.S.S. in Effingham, IL) only installs AVG Free, unless the buyer asks for something else.

Configured correctly, Norton does a good job. BUT you have to configure the settings not to take over your connection to get its updates if you have Dial Up Connection. That goes for any anti-virus that goes out to get its signature updates everyday. No software builders assume someone still has to operate on a Dial Up Connection these days. If it don't get its updates, new viruses will take over.
