,"3-point with lift assist wheels, outside three rows fold up for transport, with bean cups and insecticide boxes."

Are these planter similar to the 7000's? I am considering getting one like this to make into a bean planter, of course would switch to Kinze meters(I already have 8). Most feilds are failry level so the 3pt shouldnt be an issue. Would like to keep my 8 row 7000 for just corn. I replant back between rows so I am planting 15" final rows and with larger seed hoppers I think a 12 row like this wouold make my bean planting alot more productive

How hard is that to set up? I have a line on a 7000 12r rigid frame close by also cheap. If not to hard of a project I would love to merge the two, and have a 23r 15"

had one like it at one time ran it one season got rid of it I didn't like the fold and 3 pt setup period. If your flat nad no trees etc around you be okay. also watch out for low overhead wires. forget about shedding it unless you got larger shed. that unit was why alot of donahue implemnt trailers were sold. just me thou, okay, like I have said if it works for you thats all that matters. If doing it over again i would not worry planting twice it very seldom out yields standard rows. weather still dictates. i did 30" 15" 7.5" couldn't really tell whole lot difference in yield trials. narrows do combine nicer thou, but most everybody combines ngle rows so it don't make much diff. Owe i forgot when I played the farm game I even broadcast them once. that makes the neighbors talk. Time in field is what it saves but onlyat another piece equipmentcost. good luck

Pretty sure the 7100 was a rigid bar, and you hitched to one end for transport endwise. Many- perhaps most- were converted to fold, so check the welding job. Does it fold up or forward? I know you mentioned [u:ed1c893049]up[/u:ed1c893049], but most folks will say "fold up" no matter which way the bar bends...

You may need a third SCV for the fold, lift assist, and markers, depending on the setup.

With the ends folding up, there may be some clearance issues with the hopper extensions you have in mind- check that.

If it folds up, you'll have to empty the hoppers on the wings. Kind of a pain if you just want to go thru a gate to an adjacent field.

Make sure you'll be using plenty of tractor or you may wind up with the Tail Waggin' the Dog. That's a lot of lever sticking out each side.

Row units will be the same and, except for some possible difficulties finding space on the frame with drives, hinge, assist wheel mounts, etc., adding extra units should work. If you have enough tractor, you could eliminate the lift assist wheels and that will help.

Difficulties will come in use. With the row units so close together, there's little room for trash flow, so look out for stalks getting caught between. No room for servicing and/or filling the hoppers. These reasons are why so many of the narrow row planters used "pusher" units mounted in front of the bar.

Unless you use special, skinny tires on your tractor, at least two units will be running in the tire tracks, and that will effect emergence as well as wear on the openers and some fussing to get planting depth consistent.

Why don't you just add it to the back of your 8 row with either 7 or 9 rows. I have a neighbor who built one of these. He used the assist wheels to raise it just tee'd the cylinders. Then ran two goose-neck type arms forward to his original planter . First he tried 2/5/16 balls for the hitch. too rigid. then went to a farm wagon type hitch with 10 in of jaw. let it flex. He has used it for 8 or 10 yrs. Vic

That JD 7100 planter is an easy one to convert to a narrow row bean planter. You just need to measure and make the row spacings work out with the folding point or move the hinge to where you need it. The beauty of the three point planter is that you do not have the drive/carrier wheels in the way. I would go to long parallel arms on every other row unit as the trash flow will be much better.

The twelve row rigid drawn planter is not an easy switch unless it is a conservation model. The others had drive wheels that could not be slide.

I have done several JD 7100 and they are easy.
