I took the DNR class and passed my instructor test for archery in the schools. It was a pretty intense day on safety, procedures and equipment.

Our school system has a huge turnout, 60-80 5th-12th grade kids going out for it. The are short on instructors and both my kids are taking it this year.
 
Good for you! I have always thought they needed more sports that developed skill and self control, than gettin' out there and buttin' heads and gettin' hurt. Several of our local schools have tennis and golf in addition to the others
 
It felt really good to shoot again today. I have not been out since my dad got sick last year. I got caught up in taking care of him then the estate.
 
Good for you, I am an instructor for our local 4H shooting sports group. I have as much or more fun than the kids do. I have 4 kids so I figured I was going to bring them anyway just as well be an instructor. Wish more parents would think that way.
 
Good for you. Down here in FL it is called National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).

I help on the regional shoots but primary focus is FWC General Hunter Ed with 2-3 youth hunts I am Huntmaster for.

This photo was taken on a cell phone last week after the guy took his friend
to Bass Pro Shop to buy his first bow. The clerk was 'assisting' him in
zeroing it in, and, after shooting several arrows, making adjustments
etc., the clerk accidently handed him an arrow that was too short.
When he drew back, the arrow tip fell down onto his hand and he somehow
released it. They rode to the hospital with the bow in his buddy's hand
because it impaled his finger also! They are both archery amateurs (I'm
thinking the clerk is also?). I don't think the guy who got shot ever had
held a bow prior, let alone shoot one...OUCH!
