986 clutch/pressure plate?

installed new clutch and p/p in 986 when i bolted on p/p fingers went inward towards clutch disk this seemed backwards as i dont thik thowout bearing has enuff travel to reach fingers to dissengage did i miss somthing

No , that is what is suppose to happen . BUT if you want to slide it back together easier then remove the clutch and pressure plate from the flywheel and depress the fingers one at a time and place a 1/4 inch nut to hold them down , then hang the pressure plate on the PTo input shaft then hang the clutch disk on the transmission shaft THEN slide the tractor back together . It also helps to back off the clutch linkage . Then you only have to line up the trans. input shaft to the pilot bearing . Then you work up thru the inspection cover and install the bolts . Do not tighten them down till ya have all the bolts started then you walk them down a little at a time .
