Do you know if the Simonsen Iron Works, Inc. in Sioux Rapids, Iowa still exists? The picture shows an old sickle sharpener machine that I have that I believe was made by them.

That looks like the one we had. Probably new in the 50"s. Our grass hay required sharpening sickles usually twice a day.
 
I don't believe that Simonsen Iron Works is still in existance. Simonsen Mfg. in Quimby Ia. is operational, but they are a totally different company that builds fertilizer spreaders and that sort of thing. At home when I was growing up we had a flare box wagon with a "Simo Hoist" built in Sioux Rapids.
 
That's one of the features about the "good ole days" that I don't miss. I started cutting with a Taarup disk mower in 1975, and haven't touched a sickle bar since.
