Dad is 83 and has taken many hundreds of deer since he killed his first at 12.His best year he killed 26. Dad had his third stroke about three months ago and heart trouble and diabetes has reduced this man of incredible strength to getting around slowly with a walker. Not able to climb a stand he had the neighbor put a corn pile across the street and he sits on the front porch with his 30.06 morning and evenings. Last night he killed a doe and called to tell me. He was so happy you would have thought it was is his first one ever. I know he feels that even after all his physical set backs He is still himself. It was great to here him that happy. Just thought I would share.

That is fantastic. I kind of know how he feels. I'm 63 and was forced to retire last year due to bungled hip replacement surgeries (3 times on each side before they got it right). I get excited by being able to do alot of things now that I used to take for granted. God is good and I still get to do lots of things like garden and ride my Harley. I do have to take a stool or chair out to the garden so I can get up and down. I think venison backstrap is the best Fajita meat ever. Hope he gets lots more. Rick

Congratulations to you dad. I am 82 and in a nursing home. They tell me I need to walk more. I say give me my pain pill when I need them. gitrib

(quoted from post at 14:21:51 10/14/11) If he killed 26 in one year, he's breaking the Law, does he have any respect for the law ?

Maybe he had plenty of depredation tags?

...anyway, congrats to your Dad! I dread the day I can't enjoy an opening day or a sit in the stand. Front porch or anywhere.

Yep. As I have said on here before, when I show up at the court house to pay my property taxes and they tell me not to worry about it a deer and two turkeys came by last week and paid them for me, I have no time for the gooberment goats.

Dave

Hey Gitrib, have you mastered climbing over that rail that seperates you and your bride yet? I tell my wife all about your escapades at the home. She works at a nursing home and sure enjoys all the "truths" you come up with!! She and I are old dairymen. SHe asked me what your herd prefix is? Have you ever heard of the "Robthom" Holstein herd in Missouri? My wife was raised there.

Good for your Dad and congrats to him!!!! As an avid hunter, I dread the day I won"t be able to go anymore....still climbing trees myself, though not as fast....

Will be in a stand in about 4 hours....

I watched my brothers kill 15 in a day. In Kansas you can shoot them as pests (if you are the land owner) as long as you don't harvest them.

**** things are as bad as rats only 10X the size.

Ah, well, ahh, if you got a deer problem, I'd sure like to come help ya out. lol.

I'd love to hunt Kansas!

I don't look for respect, ( very few have any respect ) look around you and read the news, no respect for the law,
most states protect deer, maybe some don't, but waste is no respect.

I've got a friend up around Maryland that probably kills this many each year with a bow. Believe it or not.

He and his group get invited by local farmers who let them use their doe depredation tags. He'll usually keep 4 or 5 for his own freezer and donates the rest to the feed the hungry program they have going up there.

I think last year they donated over 3,000 lbs of venison to the FHFH program in their area.

He's a great guy, respects the law and flat out loves to hunt.

Just sayin'.

Law?? In this state a farmer can shoot any deer bothering his crops. No limit or calendar dates.
I shoot 5 or 6 a year on average.

Good for him.But that part about shooting across the street is a big no-no here in New York.
