I know it has been discussed before but I'll ask again. What's the best way to clean the inside of a 53 year old tractor fuel tank (diesel)? It's difficult to get any kind a brush in there. Is there a solvent I can use? Thanks guys!

get yourself a gal. of carb cleaner and pour it in let it sit and keep turning it every hr.
or steam it.

Used a new length of chain to help clean the gas tank on "Uncle Earl" our JD 39B.

Hope this helps.

James thats exactly how i did my 64 willys pickup fuel tank the other dAY , Learned from this site , now it is time to duct tape a few pin holes , and tape the holes , then pour in red coat, strap it on the 430 cASE,, put it in triple low , go about 1000 ft,, drain out access , and probably have enuf left over to do the vac tank .. cheers

Easiest best way is to pour muratic acid in it (be carefull, wear mask-safety glasses). Swoosh it around and pour out then clean residue off with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone- don't get this stuff on skin or breath in vapors-mask-safety glasses) that you can buy at most hardware stores. Then pour Red-Kote in per instrusctions on the can. Red-Kote can be bought now at TSC.

Alternate method is to tie it to a cement mixer and let the mixer run for an hour or so.
