Never gets any easier

I had to put down our 17 year old cat this afternoon. He was my computor buddy. He decided a couple years ago to park himself on the desk right next to the computor. Now I have my desk back, but would rather have him back in the way. We gave him a good life. Miss you Alex. Stan

Please accept my condolences. Like you said, It's never easy. Our cat is eleven now. He was Mama's kitty until she passed away. But lately, he has learned that I am on the computer nearly every night, and if I don't get there "on time" he meows. As soon as I sit down a the desk, he parks himself underneath at my feet and sleeps away. Pets are amazing people!

Sorry to hear that. Hard to lose a friend and loved one. I am a cat lover too. I generally have three or four laying behind the moniter and one or two blocking the screen and one in my lap. I have nineteen so I never lack for company or entertainment.

Sorry to hear that, 37. While I was in Lake Charles, my cat Rahab ran away. Last week, a few weeks later, she just showed back up. She was not ferral, either. I'm super glad to have her back, though my wife had replaced her with Ahab, a cat that I don't like. Now, if you ask her, we have two cats, but I figure that we have one, Rahab. My daughter gave the new cat the name Ahab, because she doesn't like it either.

You do become attached. After the last dog died I swore I'd never get another one because it's just too hard on me when the time comes. My dogless world lasted only three years, then I had to rescue my son's chocolate lab from his small kennel in town. So someday we'll go down this road again. Jim

Bingo! Sounds like Mrs. doubleN and me.
25 years with Aussies, the best dogs ever and had to put down the last one a few years ago. Said at our age, no more dogs, don't want to go through this again, don't want to be tied down, etc., etc.

You know the rest of the story. Less than a year later, found some sort of dog wandering along the roadside ditch, took him to the house, fed him, cleaned him up, searched for owners, ended up taking him to vet for shots and neutering and we ended up keeping him.

What is he? Vet says about 75% Standard Poodle and who knows what else. Had to have run away from someone because he already knew his basic commands and more when we found him.

But-Casey is a great dog, smart, great personality, loves the grand kids and they love him and the biggest beneift of all is that being part poodle, he's hypo-allergenic and doesn't shed, a huge plus for asthmatic ME!

Some don't cotton to cats much, but we've always had a barn full of cats around, with some favorites, they are pretty cool. I got one youngster draped against my leg right now, tho officially we don't have house cats.... there are 3 that are allowed in for a few hours.

Wife was new to the farm life back when we got married, they had a few town pets as she grew up, she really took to the cats here, baby kittens were something new for her to wonder at. They have taken to her as well. The last 2 kittens this year are only a month old or so, when their mom brought them out the bolder one came right up to my wife, followed her voice around. No hissing & spitting, just - hi, look at me, got anything for me? Remarkable.

Mighta said here before, we had a tom cat that came home dragging his tail, took $400 of vet bills to fix hime up, he disappeared this year, but in the 8 years between the tail issue & now, he's gone gopher hunting aloong the ditch bank and probably saved me more than $400 worth of corn along that ditch bank - will be interesting to see if any other cat takes over his route, or if the first4 rows of corn starts disappearing again. He was sure worth the investment in 'just a barn cat.'

Anyhow, sorry for your loss, those kids can sure worm their way into a person's life, leaves an empty spot when they are gone.
