Honda GX160 no start - electrical question

Took my power washer out of storage to use today, been in storage for about 11 months. Has been a good starter, runner, probably the best small engine I own. Honda GX160 - 5.5HP. With "ELECTRONIC IGNITION". Inital checks indicate no spark. Now, as I trouble shoot this thing, am I going to find points, condenser, etc., or is this one of those coil only things excited by a magnet in the flywheel? I don"t want to take half the front of the engine off if there"s nothing in there to service..

Low oil switch is something to check. We run about 20 of these on our spray trucks and its one of the more common "no spark" issues. These engines are great, but they can be finickey about spark plugs as well, I"ve seen many fire right up with a new plug. You"ll find a coil with magnetic pickup.

Electronic ignition ?? HMMMmmm ... Let me know when you find the points and condenser.

Bet it just works off the magneto.

Well I removed and cleaned the plug, and couldn"t see a spark. Installed it anyway. (Remind me to get a plug wrench with thinner sidewall.) Removed air cleaner, gave it a very breif breath of brake cleaner spray. Couple short pulls on the starter cord and it took off running. Guess I"ll let my curiosity about the ignition system wait for a while. If it ain"t broke.......

Thanks guys.

Electronic ignitions seldom spark well at low rpms.

Briggs states in their service data that their electronic ignition units will not spark below 350 rpms.
