Three Arrested For Theft Of Farm Equipment
Last updated on Friday, October 07, 2011

(WORTHINGTON, IN) - Three people were arrested Tuesday on a warrant for the theft of equipment from a rural Worthington Farm.

47-year-old Douglas A. Bell, 25-year-old Timothy A. Bell and 25-year-old Jeremy G. Baldock were charged with one count of theft.

The trio is accused of stealing several pieces of equipment from Joe Decker's farm on county Road 50 E and State Road 76.

Items taken were: A portable oxygen/acetylene welder, a stainless steel hog feeder, two window air conditioners, two cast iron bathtubs, an air compressor, several tires and rims and several pieces of steel and iron. Some of the items were found at J&M Recycling near Worthington.

J&M Recycling provided a receipt to police, vehicle description and a copy of Douglas Bell's driver's license.

I don't know the law there but I suspect it was only 1 event, so only 1 count. Back in my Deputy days we always use to throw in Criminal Tresspass and Possession of Stolen Property.

Glad they got caught. Article in local paper with LE complaining about loophole in state law which allowed someone to:

1. steal car

2. sell car to junkyard for scrap without a title.

3. junkyard chopped car up.

4. all this over a 2 day period.

Car was about 10 years old, 133,000 miles, and running. Junkyard was cooperative?? but no one has offered to pay for the car.

that was tryed here in alberta. a guy shot at the theives stealing his quad. some shotgun pellets hit one guy with none life treatening injuries. the judge ordered him 90 days jail time i believe it was. lucky he didnt kill him. ya this world is gone to the theives. but there is times when i think the judge should be put in the same cell as the criminal, lock the door, turn out the lights and turn a deaf ear.

In SC, a repo wrecker is free to get any car they want. Owner will go to jail for interfering. My neighbor nearly lost his truck one night, It was a Black Ford, wrecker had papers to get a White Chevy. Still, he got in serious trouble for stopping the guy from taking it.

Law needs to be changed..

I watched it all happen late one night. Police told my neighbor that the Repo guys do make mistakes, and that they take the "Mistakes" to a crusher, rather than return them. They said that owner's insurance would have paid for truck... Yes, this does sound crazy.

If I remember right, the guy in Alberta chased the quad down in his pick up, ran the quad off the road and then shot at the thief. His life wasn't threatened and he could have been charged with attempted murder instead. Just something that should be considered.

I would have done the same thing. I've had so much stolen from me that I could care less about the life of a putrid thief. Many a night I have thought about how I would probably cut the fingers off the last thief who stole my tools. Every time I think about it, I giggle. running one off the road with a truck? that's nothing... hit with a few pellets? that's nothing... How about drug by the ankles with a truck through a rocky pasture or a field of black berry stubble? Slow painful way to die for someone who doesn't want to work for a living. workign for a living is a slow painful way to die, why give them the option to have a quick painless death?

I would bet you that less people would be theives if the courts looked the other way for vigilante justice.

Local case-

I know the people involved. Chris Sunday lived and is fine, Eraldo never was charged with anything. The public outcry was so great that there would have been a riot had they charged him with attempted homicide.

2 weeks prior to the incident, Eraldo was robbed by the same 2 kids and beaten with a baseball bat. They didn't get any money from him that time, so they came back to try it again, and this time, they brought a gun. Eraldo also started carrying a gun.

The only thing he did wrong was put the bullet hole in his back. make sure the attacker is facing you when you shoot.

Nah! They cant do that legally! I worked for a repo man in your area. Still do on occasions. They dont take mistakes to the crusher, unless the owner says to do it, or theres some circumstances that warrant it. Even old Chuck Wright will tell ya that!
