Ok so got a call from a friend this morning. Said his wife was broke down and needed me to go and get her back on the road. So now the funny. This truck has quick connects at the heater hose but you need a special tool to remove it and then why even have it when you have a hose clamp on the hose to hook it to that connect thing. Quick connect broke off and of course it is made of plastic so I will have to replace it when she get back to town with it. Cost for the part and the tool you have to have to remove the old broken one is $15 but why have it there in the first place since all if does is make it harder to work on and cost you move $$ for a stupid no need part

Those connectors are put on there for ease of assembly at the factory when they are marryin' the engine/chasis/body.

All they gotta do is just snap 'em in and go to the next unit on the line.

Ya and just another way to make it cost a person more out the door when new and cause problems latter down the road. But yep understand what your saying just to make it easy on the guy who gets way to much $$ for what he does

I talked to a guy back in the nineties. He was on 'vacation' for a year at full pay.

$80K a year while they did a model change and he didn't have to lift a finger.

Unions gripe me to no end.

Ya in many things a well trained monkey and a guy watching 10 of them could do the jobs for 1/10th of what union guys do them. But then we have one of them trained monkeys in D.C right now LOL

you can dislike unions all you want, but remember ,management was the the ones who gave away the keys to the house.all management has to do is raise the price of the product.then the idiot consumer buys anyway.

That's for darned sure,

Kinda like being in an upward sprial and a downward sprial all at the same time.

And us little people people down here on the ground are the ones who really get yanked apart. :>(

Be careful Rich. What they plug into is cheap pot metal and it breaks too if I understand you correctly. They rank right up there with those plastic flush tees.

Ya this one broke off right at the hose fitting and as per O'Reilly's it takes a special tool to take off the quick connect fitting before I can even install the new one. Sad how things have gotten to the point they do not look at the future of the have to repair part of things. To me I think auto company's should believe in KISS. Keep it simple stupid but hey they have college degrees so they can not keep it simple because they are to stupid to do so

Well i am a Union Millwright and yes,I make good money at what i do.I make a honest wage for a honest days work.I don"t stand around and wait for someone else to pay my way for me.I am not overpaid for the hard work that i do.I work in Nuke Plants,Car Plants,Boiler Houses and all kinds of dangerous places.I have to train and update my skills and certifications every year to be able to stay at work.I make the money i do because of the fact that i had the incentive to better myself by joining a Union.I worked for years for peanuts before i wised up.You that put Union workers down really don"t know what all some go through to try to better their lives and the lives of thier families. The Union Brotherhood i belong to has been good to me and i appreciate it.

Because you are not supposed to be the one doing the repairs.
The dealers are intended to do the repair.

It's business.

So you take it to an independent shop, or guy, and he has to spend untold funds just to accommodate special design.

It's planned that way.

Buy a car, have it repaired by the seller and dispose of it when the warranty expires, repeat.

Thank you, I am a retired union millwright, and I'm glad I'm retired the way things are going. Last fall I went and drove truck in the Red river valley for harvest, but this year american crystal sugar is out to break the union so I didn't go this year. It seems like the nnalert are determined to have all blue collar workers work for minnimum wages and pay their own health insurance! (to a big insurance company that they own!)

I agree. That fitting is made of the cheapest metal ever. Had one break off, it was permatexted to the manifold. Had to drill it out and retap the threads. Used one off a 1980s Pontiac with a 305 (5.0) to replace it.

It all depends on the company and the union. Some unions are great and other's seem to think that they run the show and get to tell the company how to run their business. What's really sad is that lot's of people in management are afraid of the unions when it comes to disciplining(sp)or even firing workers who clearly deserve it. I know someone who works in healthcare and the stories I hear are mind boggling. One of the problems with a lot of unions is that they keep slackers employed just because they've been there a long time. Good non union companies will often treat employee's as well or better than union companies. It all depends...

I have a 2000 c2500 with the 5.7(350 cu in) Iengine. It has that same setup. When mine failed, I had to use an eazey out to remove asmuch of the pot metal as I could then re thread the intake manifold with a 1/2" pipe tap. then I put in a 6" brass nipple with a 90 and a heater hose nipple. That fixed it up. I had all the tools except the pipe tap which I bought at Harbor Freight.

Ah but I did not say all union jobs could be done by well trained monkeys so you are one of them that earn what you make but I have known many a guy who did a union job and got big bucks for a job any body could do just by walking in and being shown how to do it and be good at it in 15 minutes but still get $25 plus and hour as I said a well trained monkey job
