Anyone know anything about GMC General semi-tractors?

Hey guys,

A friend of mine bought a GMC General truck early this summer to replace their "out-of-field" Astro that puked the engine. He said he believes it to be a early-mid 80's, but could not remember, but would double check and inform me tomorrow.

At wheat harvest, the blinkers quit working. They can't find a fuse/circuit breaker that is blown.. Every one they can find has power in and out..

Thy are thinking possibly the "flasher unit" has gone bad (even though usually when they quit the light will come on and just not flash.. But stranger things have been known to happen) But they cannot find said flasher unit.. It's not by the circuit breakers.. Someone told them it's in the cab under the dash.. Can't seem to find it there.. Someone else said it's just inside the door (almost like aside the clutch pedal) but he says there's no panel there that even opens..

He's thinking it's under the hood, but says he hasn't found it there either (yet). Does anyone have an idea where it might be found, or what else could be culprit for that matter??

Thanks in advance,

Brad

I had a 78 under the rig and the flasher was in that metal box type deal right behind the gear shift level on the back of the cab next to the floor. Had a heavy duty flasher was about 2"'x3" black box. that being said I don't think that is whats wrong.Think you will find you aren't geting power to it or it has a bad switch.

This is around a 78

Check for a burnt bulb. I ran a Chevy 6500 dump in the mid eighties and if I remember right the turn signal bulbs completed the circuit. Turn signals would not work with a burnt bulb.

Thank you for the response guys. I have passed along the information. He too believes the problem is a little deeper, but he's hoping it's just that simple, as he's running out of time..

If the rain is done for more than a day or 2, by the end of the week we'll be seeing a few combines on the move.

Thanks again.

Brad
