2003 Chevy truck

We were driving back from Mackinaw City today and I noticed my speedometer was reading 11 MPH over what the GPS said. The odometer was reading right. I stopped to gas up and when I got back on the road it was reading 3 MPH over. Its a 2003 2500HD with the 6 engine. 80some thousand miles. Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks for reading

Most likely the cluster is failing. If so, the symptoms will likely become more frequent and more severe. Other functions will likely become unreliable, inaccurate or non functional as well.

I know GM had some recalls on clusters not reading accurately but thinking it was 2004 or 2005...it did cover a huge span of trucks...call your local dealer and have them run your VIN and see what they can tell you!

Chevy's infamous dash cluster. Had to have mine done at 210k, its pretty cheap, $110, less if you dont have a transmission temp gauge. There's a guy in Mn, and a guy in Ky that repairs them. I used the Ky guy and havent had any problems. They run adds in the IN and OH Trader, in the back if you cant find them post another message, and ill get the info for you when I go back to work.

I have a 2003 GMC K3500 and the cluster works just fine, but I have a letter from GM saying if it fails they will repair it for free. Call your dealer and raise hell with them and they should take care of it for you. They had a lot of problems with them.

Yep, my 05 will drop to zero while driving down the road.. It keeps getting slower and slower, no matter how hard I push the pedal.. Don't do it always, but then again, the truck very rarely goes more than 8-10 miles one way these days.

Dad's 04 would read anywhere from 35-40 to max speed at a idle, in park.. They fixed dad's under warranty, but he was just above the mileage, somehow, still got it covered.. Seems like they'd fix em free up to 75k miles?? Can't recall all what years though.

Uncle's 04 w/ duramax has a intermittent fuel gauge issue.. Like it'll hover at 3/8 of a tank (for what seems like a while), then after the truck stalls (usually as it runs out of fuel LOL), the low fuel light comes on and the fuel gauge drops..

The clusters are also available thru NAPA.. seems like my price was around $119... With a nearly $400 core charge.. They REALLLLY want those dudes back..

I have a 99 suburban and the fuel gauge is all over the map when it gets below 3/4 of a tank. I just reset the trip OD to keep track of about how much fuel I have. I know my rang per tank is approx. 400 miles.

Steve, thats how my dad's car has been for a while now as well..

In the case of the duramax, we had borrowed the truck, 4 of us in it, pulling 4 snowmobiles.. 2 miles from our exit.. There we sat.. We dropped from 3/8 to hardly any fuel in about 1 mile (of course, just past an exit..) made it about another mile before we ran out of fuel.

Called my uncle.. he says "Huh, never noticed that before!" LOL.. Well, imagine that..

If we borrow the truck, we now make sure it's full when we leave here, check odometer, and take 5 gallons with us, just in case.. Can't be too careful, right?? LOL

I really didnt want that answer.lol. I have a local mechanic and will take it to him, hes pretty sharp and dont soak me. This is the firat thing thats gone wrong with the truck,(outside of drinking a lot of gas) I was traviling with a Duramax and got close to the same milage as he did and we both have about the same sized trailer. Thanks for the info.

IH School buses are notorious for the circuit board in the dash going bad. Where the wire harness plugs in to the circuit board the lugs will work loose and push the solder away from them, like taking a fence post and wobbling it around until you can pull it out. This is what happens to circuit boards. I just cleaned up around them then resoldered them and they work fine. Same thing happened on my 97 dodge van.

Same tires on it for the last 2 1/2 years. The speedo has always been right on with the GPS until yesterday. I really appreciate all the responces
