Normal average around here is 175-200. Considering how dry we were here in the southern part of IN its a really good average this year. I dont think all my corn is gonna be this good. I have a couple fields Im hopin to at least get a 110 average.

Can a old man add a little to this thread. When I got out of High school in Iowa my father bought a new single row picker. Could get about 10 acre a day and corn yield was 100 bu per acre. Pretty skimpy by todays standard but we got it done. Usually froze your highney off. Was really big time when we got a Heat Houser. Congratulation on a Great Crop.

I went from Cincinnati OH to Fairmont IN this past weekend up 74 to RT9 and only saw a handfull of fields cut or shelled. This realy suprised me. Normaly you guys have 1/3 of your crops out by this time of the year. Saw a few fields of beans that realy looked good but most were kinda rough lookin and alot of wind damaged corn. I think all of us have had a rough year this year. Glad to hear you are having good yeilds and the moisture is down as low as it is. Bandit

great yeilds but at todays prices why do we need a farm program . I also farm but dont think nthe taxpayers should kick in more thanks bob

What year was that? 100 bu sounds really good for the late 40's-early 50's. Dad said his first year farming, 1948, was really good and he had some 100 bu corn when the average was 85 or so. He thought he had this farming thing figured out until the next year brought him back to reality with 60 bu corn. Jim

Dad had one of those Woods pickers an it sure did a clean job.Only problem corn ears would not slide in elevator very well on one side of Pa hills.Course dad always had us picking corn when it was too wet !

The best Ive done in a day with that combine is 97acres. Ideal conditions and not a very long wait at the elevator so the trucks could get back quick and all in one field. I never have run an open cab combine or an old picker but I think about the older farmers who never had cabs especially when its really dusty or cold out and appreciate the comforts of a cab.

So far its been a strange year. I have seen some higher moisture but nothing over 22% and it wasnt for very long. Some of the corn with the green tho in one of the other fields rite by the one Im in there I had to quit on because the moisture was 24. Same soil type same variety of corn and all planted at the same time and has the same amount of green in the leaves but the moisture was higher. This was some of our first planted so I fear that some of the other is not gonna be so dry.
