Tractor Cover

I was recently fortunate enough to be able to purchase my grandfather's original 1948 John Deere model A at auction last weekend. I am very proud to have that piece of my family's history that worked his Iowa farm for over 60 years...but currently have very limited storage options at my house in North Carolina. For the forseable future, the tractor will have to be stored outside and I do not have room for a carport or any covering structure. I guess I am looking for a outdoor tractor cover? Any suggestions on where to find a cover or opinions on the best materials to use for a cover would be greatly appreciated. I know that you do not want to use a tarp or other heavy materials that might trap water and mositure on the tractor. Any thoughts on how to best protect that great piece of Iowa iron would be appreciated!

Thanks, Doug

Lay something on it to keep the tarp off the tracter itself (so it can breath)and cover it up. Or, if it is in good shape, just clean and wax it and keep it clean. I'd go with the tarp th

You have the right idea about not trapping moisture. A friend wrapped one tight and couldn't believe the acceleration in rust in one winter and spring. I like old rubber roofing because it stays put better than a tarp so it doesn't rub the paint like lighter tarps will.

How about one of those temporary garages? You don't have to worry about snow loading in NC, only wind, and there are some pretty impressive temporary garages on the market these days.

You might try looking at motorcycle covers on-line. Some claim to be waterproof and also breathable.

If you find one big enough, maybe cut a hole for the exhaust pipe to poke through. It would cover the important part of the tractor anyway. The rear wheels might stick out though....

I would think a tarp would do more damage that leaving it uncovered. You will get condensation under the tarp that can never dry.

You can put 4 treated posts in the ground and build a cover for the tractor.Go look at the table covers at state road side rest areas.
