shop vac died

Are you sure it's the motor? Mine quit, and it turned out to be the on/off switch. A little fiddling with the switch has gotten several more years out of it so far. At no cost. It is a (claimed) 6hp ShopVac brand.

OK - sounds like the motor - mine was just unresponsive. Other than the troublesome switch, my ShopVac has served me well, but I remember others on here saying that they wouldn't own another ShopVac.

When my shop vac died, I found out there are no parts available for any model of vac. I like sears shop vacs with a large hose, less likely to choke up. Also like the idea that you can remove the vac and use it as a blower to clean the dust off work benches.

If you catch them on sale, you can get them under $100.

I have had 2 ShopVacs and they junked out right away. I have a Craftsman that I have had for years.

You may not wanna hear it, but just go to HF and get the best one they got and replace it as needed. Or get a karcher, You'll always be able to get parts for them if you can afford them.

Grainger probably has a motor that will replace yours. But the cost may be greater than the price of new vacuum.

At our machine shops on campus we all use Sears Craftsman vacs. They are disposable like the Shop Vac brand and also like the other ones from Home Depot or Lowe"s but the Sears models are powerful and last several years sucking saw dust mixed with oil, machine tool coolant and other mess. We keep 4-6 vacs all the time and I replace them on rotation when Sears has a sale. There are some industrial shop vacs but costs $$$ thousands and the Craftsman on sale is $70-130. Paul
