First sign of winter

Wasn't mine, but my snowplow NEVER gets removed.

Mine gets driven less than 50 miles after the last snow. It might see 250 miles per year total, speedometer and odometer are broke.

Hope the plow you saw is NOT a sign of winter. DOUG

Nope, not Goofy, Bill. I am in West Central Ohio. Snow plows come off the truck in April, don't usually go back on till Thanksgiving...

There won"t be any snow this winter in south central Michigan. I am installing a plow on my truck today, going to plow in comfort finally after fifty years. There will be very little open station tractor plowing from now on. Phil

Yep.

I have an old beater pickup with a plow on it, a "V" plow that replaces the bucket on the loader on my H Farmall, and a rear blade for my D19 Allis.

Guess which unit does 99.99% of the plowing.

Good for you! When we had our worst blizzard in at least 50 years in February BOTH tractors were basically helpless. (IH1066 and Ford 5000 row crop.)

I had drifts in my driveway that the tractors couldn't go through even with the blades up. Each has it's own blade, so tried with the Ford first.

Anyhow, the Ford has a differential lock. Knew better than to even try with the helpless in snow 1066. Has a loader spear set up for hay, no bucket.

You can move an incredible amount of snow with a power angle blade. Snow was over a foot deeper than the plow, but taking small bites R/L/R/L, was able to get the first pass made.

From there on out it was easy, just keep trimming the edge to where you want to leave the pile.

Just watch your temperature gauge if you end up moving stuff this deep. It goes over the the plow and plugs the radiator with snow. DOUG

You will need a loader for the big drifts. I took me about 4 hours last snowstorm to clear 400 feet.

Don't count on it. Wooly worms don't even know this year, been seeing them with every combination of color you can imagine. I did build a new blade for my 41 JD A, which means I won't use it much.

After suffering decades of using a snowblower on the back of a WD-45 to plow my driveway, I've now been plowing in the heated comfort of a truck cab for the past three years. I got sick of seeing that snowblower rusting away from lack of use and sold it this year. Now all I can think about is what I'm going to do now that I've guaranteed that the drifts are going to be taller than the truck this year!

Hey guys, this IS a family oriented forum, and we really DON'T NEED to hear that kind of language here. I realize that there are people who have to deal with that kind of stuff, but we don't need to listen to it. Just thinking about it is traumatizing, and repeated mention of it is likely to damage my poor tender psyche. Let's just try to sweep it under the rug, and not inflict it on innocent ears. PS, do you know where I can get a REALLY BIIG rug. I have over forty driveways that will need plowing in the near future. That is, if I can finish repairing the damage from the flood during tropical storm Irene.

Plow never comes off my plow truck. All summer it just sits waiting for snow. We had some flurries last week, but it will be a bit before I have to plow. Still have a lot of projects to get done before winter sets in haha.
