Gas tank sealer

Most radiator shops can seal your tank for you.

I would not recommend doing so yourself unless you know what you are doing and follow the directions precisely.

look on the internet for "POR 15", "Kreame" and other products.

They are very expensive.
They usually require several steps.
They usually eat the paint of the outside of the tank near the filler and drain.
They work very well when applied correctly. Some last forever and some dont, so choose wisely.
Some will come off and stop up the tank if not installed correctly, so do every step for correct results.

I use "por15" and other than eating off the outside paint, it is a very very good product. One step is an acid wash and it will eat away rust, fingers, dirt, paint, tires, and about everything else. but the tank will be complete clean and prepared for the next step. So forget about any paint till its all done and you [color=red:14b1be10da]definately[/color:14b1be10da] have to repaint. But it last forever. It's too expensive for anything other than a gas tank that cant be readily replaced.

"kreame" can come off and flake off in a lot of installations when done incorrectly, so it actually becomes a problem, not a help.. You must install it correctly, so dont do any shortcuts.

Most of these are well used in the motorcycle world for restoring small tanks where you cant buy them anymore. So theres a alot of knowledge on those forums.

(quoted from post at 07:02:04 09/26/11) Where do you purchase this stuff? Is it hard to use? Could it be used to rust proof metal? Thanks.

What kind of metal are you wanting to rust-proof? Depending on what you are wanting to do, there are several products available that would be much better and more effective than the "red-kote" gas tank sealer.

As said before the tank has to be clean. I use Red Kote and they say most failers of there product is caused by not getting tank completely dry. In my area Napa, Auto Zone, and Advance Auto do not stock or will not order tank sealer. I had to go to Oreilly Auto Parts they stock it all the time. You have to ask for it because they don't put it on the shelf out in the store.

Take that tank to a carwash and spend 5 bucks on it.then set it in the hot sun for a few day to completly dry.then you can apply sealer.Steve
