2002 dodge ram 1500

I just bought a 2002 dodge ram 1500 pretty cheap because it needed some work. After driving it for a couple weeks the rear diff is making noise. The kid i bought it off of said he put a different rear diff in it. I come to relize it has the wrong gear ratio. It is 4wd and the front is a 3.92 and the rear is 3.55. my question is if i buy a 3.92 ring an pinion will it fit on the old carrier of the ring gear? I have ran into chevys that had different carriers in it.
 
i dont know much about the 02 and up dodges but i was looking to buy one my self but changed my mine. a friend of mine worked at the dodge dealership and told me who to talk with about these trucks and he said that in 02 they changed everything on them and none of the parts from the 01 and older would work. so all your options i would think would be from 02 and newer on the parts u need.

They changed about 1/2 way through the model year in '02.
If it's the old body style then older parts will work
 
02 and up parts will work for you truck. 02 was when the half tons changed and 03 for the 3/4 and ton trucks. Randy's ring and pinion is who I buy everything from. If they don't have it or can't get it you probably won't find it. Nice folks to deal with too.
