NASA confirms Satellite crashed to earth sometime last night . No sign of it to be found as scrappers have looted it and stripped all the copper out . lol

Funny!
I read in Sports Illistrated yesterday that scrappers (thieves) stole a brass valve from the sprinkler system at the College Football Hall of Fame. The estimated scrap value of the valve was five dollars. The damage caused by the subsequently malfunctioning sprinkler system was estimated, by the insurance company, at one hundred thousand dollars. Hope they get caught.

I really don't understand why we got our collective undies in a bunch over this satellite. Satellites fall back to Earth all the time. Most of the satellite burns up upon reentry into the atmosphere. Some parts of it do get through but nothing anywhere near the size of a car like some people fear. With the pieces that do get through keep in mind that 70% of the Earth is water. Of the 30% that is land, humans only occupy 1% in any type of dense population (40% is pure wilderness. 14% is true desert and 15% has desert like characteristics. 9% is Antarctica. Most of the remaining 22% are agricultural areas) So dense human population is present in 1% of 30% of the Earth.
That means that a satellite could fall to Earth and hit 99.7% of Earth and basically no one would notice. Settle down folks.

The reason they were worried is most of the time a satellite completely burns up in the outer atmosphere. This one had a big enough chunk to hit the ground. I still remember the shuttle Columbia in 2003 breaking up over my place. I didn"t know what happened but it sounded like one of my neighbors had a propane tank explode. I drove around near where I live to see if anyone needed assistance.
