Oh, And Another Thing

I knew there was something wrong with the way the machine shop had put that head together because a week after I got it back, the old sis started smoking blue on startup.

Glad I pulled 'er down and resealed those valves.

Morning Allan

Does the wife know your using her throw rug for a shop rag???

The old saying goes if you want something done right you got to do it yourself.

What I want to know is did you get any restitution from the machine shop other than, "Sorry" (if they were even that generous)

always fun to re-do somebody elses mistakes!!!! alan, did you ever get the gleaner combine project done??

Could never figure out why it didn't foul plugs if the valve seals were leaking.

Now we know; the oil was coming in thru the exhaust side (not a lot of suction).

They'd put the intake seals on the exhaust valves and looks like they lasted just about an hour.

Oddly enough, those wrong intake seals were still holding even tho they were meant for the exhaust valves. :>)

I've never got back on the old gal. Always something else "more pressing". :>(

One of these days................maybe.

That"s what my father used to call a "Someday Job".

My wife hates that term, especially when it relates to her "honeydo" list.

When IH came with those seals they issued a valve guide machining tool to retrofit old style intake valve guide. It had a stop on it for the correct height and worked well. The new intake valve guide was already machined and the correct length. You don't use the little rubber rings that come in the set though. The good pc style seal goes on intake and unbrella on exhaust. They did a real good job. Before IH got their act together I used to install a lot of the teflon pc seals that worked very well also but were more expensive. I have seen a lot of intake valve seals put on guides that were not machined properly and they do not do a good job. There was an excellent bulletin with all the information but I don't have one anymore. Just go by memory.
