OT Golf Carts/ Farm Shows

We went to the Ohio Farm Science Review in Columbus (actually London) yesterday. Between the late harvest and rainy weather, I think every farmer in the country attended. I've never seen it so crowded.

Anyhow, if something isn't done about the golf carts, I won't be going back. I don't mid a few carrying middle aged or older guys, that's fine, but the number of carts full of people under 30 is out of hand.

There were so many yesterday that it was hard to cross the streets at times. And forget about pedestrians having hte right of way, they'll drive right over the top of you. You see very few actually pulling over and talking to exhibitors, they are just driving in circles........ craziness!!

Thanks for letting me rant.

Shows around here you have to have a handicap plate or tag for yer car to use a golf cart on show grounds plus show proof of insurance on the cart.

Tim I have been to shows and seen the same thing. Like you I thought the carts were for the elderly or handicaped. I think some of them are just to lazy to walk.

Tim,

I for one understand your aggravation over the golf carts, but may I make a suggestion?
Although your post here probably made you feel better, I"m pretty sure it won"t have any effect on resolving the issue at the show next year.
You know the old saying, "If they don"t know about the problem, they can"t fix the problem."
How about going to their web site and clicking on the "Contact Us" link and sending them an Email with your concerns? Looks like they have several names that may be interested in your concerns. Also, ask others to do the same thing. If a large amount of people address the problem to the folks that run the show, It"s quite possible they would resolve the issue.
Just a thought...

Thanks Downsouth,

Actually, I did just that. I posted here first to vent my system, then I emailed the FSR Sight Manager about the situation....... this was after I slept on it last night so I wouldn't sound too angry.

Good point though.

To keep the number of carts down at the campgrounds we stay at,they require registration and proof of insurance.

I had a similar problem. My youngest daughter was attending a very large church youth camp. I did not attend. They rented golf carts there. They were very restrictive and very particular about how the carts were supposed to be used. But nothing was enforced. My daughter was run down by a cart from behind on a sidewalk. They actually backed up and got her a second time too. The driver (adult) acted like it was my daughter's fault and tried to leave her there on the ground.

I emailed the event but got no response. They basically ignored me. Hope you get better satisfaction than I did.

BTW, my daughter was ok, just scared. The woman that did it did not get off scot free. Our youth minister's wife caught her and gave her a piece of her mind. You didn't mess with that woman when she was mad.

as i have a hard time walking i dont attend shows that im not allowed to use my gator and the farm science show is one of them i was at half centrury show with thousands of gators golf carts and many other motorized vehicles and i did not see one person get run over or hurt but there are some hot rods out there that do abuse it and drive way faster than they should i will agree

I agree 100% with you...I about got run over at the Half
Century Of Progress Show..No one wants to walk anymore...If
you have a disability and a handicap liscense plate on your
vehicle I have nothing against someone using a golf cart..

At the Farm Progress Show someone did get run over by a
golf cart and got a broken leg..

I just quit going to shows. If I can't walk a show I won't bother others with my inability. Anybody shopped at Walmart lately? Seems like everybody rides those scooters at Walmart anymore. Is this a new profit center for Walmart? Renting scooters? If I do any shopping at Walmart I do it late at night after all those people are home on the couch pigging out on their newly purchased munchies, or early morning before the traffic in the store gets too bad.
