What about corn???? Could use the small amount, just don't know about planting without plowing everything up (may not be an option).

previous post below......

hey folks, have a small place that gets next to no direct sunlight. Result is most always moist to wet with nettle and a some type of sour grass that the horses won't eat.... I mowed it to knock down the nettle and raked everything up/hauled it off (horses will eat nettle and it's good for them after it has layed a day or so to dry). Just wondering if t makes to seed it with anything.... Prolly a real ignorant ??? to you folks, but if it was sedded with wheat or barley... 1) would it grow and overpower the nettle and junk grass? 2) would it continue to come back after just being mowed (think I know that answer)?
Less than 1/4 acre and prep doesn't seem to take much more than running over it with the rotary hay rake...

if its as wet as you say, corn probably wont do too good either.doesnt really like standing in water.

hayray nailed it in the previous post, those species work in wet conditions. Legumes generally will not make it if planted this late. Grass should be in the ground by Sept 30, sooner is better. The established grass will be difficult to get rid of,it has adapated to the site. Bare soil to seed contact will allow some new plant establishment. My experience with canarygrass is very difficult to establish. Timothy is good choice, but is not considered a grazing grass here. (Best for hay)

(quoted from post at 06:51:40 09/22/11) Haul in some rock/gravel and be done with it.

not allowed. seems the moisture was hanging there because of the thick matt of junk. After I mowed and raked it with a rotary rake it seems to breath and has dried up some............ Problem solved tho, talked with the 3 hunters responsible for the area today. They are gonna plant it to wildflowers/herbs and other goodies for the deer.........

won't have to mow it anymore.....

thanks for the tips.
