I am looking to buy a fully restored John Deere Model A or B styled tractor with long hood that has been properly restored as close as possible to the way that it would have looked when sold new, I have looked at a few restored tractors that everything has been painted green and others that have certain things painted green and other things not, so now I am not sure what is correct and what is not,can anyone here point me in the right direction for information, so I may learn what would be correct and what would not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! AL

Look around your area, Is there a tractor show you could go to and talk to some of the owners.
Some of those tractors just be for sale. But at leased you will get some idears.

to get the best really detailed information I don't think that you can do better than original manufactures ad pictures.

Well , "from the factory" would mean green manifolds with the paint discolored and possibly starting to rust from being run after assy. Also would mean carb and all fittings and linkeag would be all green paint (painted on tractor). Also would mean outer ends of axles would be bare steel w/possibly some grease residue on them. They were shipped with grease and burlap wrapped around them to protect. They also had green overspray on the radiator fins. All that being said....I would be willing to bet you will NOT find one done this way. Why? Because it looks sloppy! Which it IS! But that is the way mass production of farm tractors was. Most restorers don't reproduce the "slop"...they improve on it. Detail looks nice , even though it isn't 100% original. Decal placement changed depending on year. Lots of variables. When you find one you are interested in, take a digital photo and post it on here and everyone will tell you what isn't and is correct/accepted as original.

Thanks to all who have responded, they were some good points....B-Maniac thank you for your input also, would you mind e-mailing me so we could possibly talk some more...I am not to good with a computer and don't have a clue how to post picture, but could really use your help with some questions! Thanks
