Oil.... from Phantom oil change post..below

Good post on the Phantom oil change. Several comments were made as to the quality of the oil used in the shops such as Jiffy Lube and Tires Plus. Anyone see any actual studies.....seems like they wouldn"t be around long if the oil was poor quality.

Most people don't know anything about oil and don't care. And today even yer cheap oil will keep a car running a long time. I've used an oil change place once, death in the family, change due and trying to make a 500 mile trip with no spare time. They put the filter on so tight that next oil change I didn't think I would ever get it off.

Oil change shops offer the same slice of life as any other business. There is the good, the bad, and the ugly. In my little town there are two. One, the manager has been there ten years, and does most of the underside work himself. I recommend that shop to anyone. The other one is a franchise, and I have repaired plenty of their mistakes over the past few years. As far as oil goes, an oil change is the least expensive maintenance one can do, why take chances on inferior oil.

That being said, I"ve worked on my cars for over 40 years and had to fix plenty of my mistakes. I still come highly recommended.

What exactly is "inferior" oil? As long as it meets the API standards specified for your engine it is good oil!

Many moons ago, there was a company that delivered oils in bulk to stations (now out of business) not due to their service, but Mom and Pop stations are mostly extinct. now within these deliveries say a station handled Texaco products and had a bulk oil tank.. Mom and Pop thought they were getting Texaco oil , but in fact they were paying for it but getting a supposedly same quality oil that cost the company much less. Don't ask me how I know...Classified info .. I'll have to shoot ya .
