O/T I need a little electronic help

In my daughter's house there is a fan, and light I installed about 4 years ago. The fan and light combination are operated by remote control device, and operate seperate. The fan comes on fine, but the light doesn't. I removed the junction box on the fan there are two black boxes. How do these small black boxes work? I assume they receive a signal from the remote. I think the light black box is bad. What are they called so I can order one? Thanks for any help. Stan
 
About all there is to do is to replace the whole fan and light assembly. Every time I look for one of the black boxes they say they are not available separately .
 
Yeah, I found one of those little black thingies at Lowe's a few years ago for a lamp. It didn't last long. Wasn't worth the trouble. Like the other fella said, best thing to do is replace the whole thing.

My son has a combination fan/light with remote control. I don't remember what brand it is. His remote quit a few years ago. I looked up the manufacturer on the internet, contacted their customer support, they sent a replacement box for in the fan, I installed it, and it has worked ever since.

There was no charge for the part or the shipping. They said it was a life-time guarantee.

If you haven't already searched the internet for the manufacturer's customer service department, you might try that.

My former FIL had one in his and MIL's bed room, ended up replacing the light/fan combo and gave it to me. I installed the fan less the control box and it worked great. Only thing bad was control box. I told him that that was the problem but he went ahead and bought new and had multiple problems with the control box for the new fan.

My suggestion replace control box with one from a reputable manufacturer.
