Front mount six row culivators

Buying a new to me planter for next year. The configuration will be 6-30".
Being organic I now also need to purchase cultivators that will go along with it. In the past when the corn was small I would use an Oliver Super 66 with a mounted culivator then switch to a 3-point mounted once the corn was over 8 inches. I hate 3 point mounted cultivators because even with a stay bar and row guides the cultivators will still move from side to side on our hills. Plus I hate not being able to see what's going on behind me. The only front mount six rows I can seem to find are JD or IH. My tractors are neither. Does anyone out there now if there were any front mount cultivators for the 100 series MF, or the 55 series Oliver. I'm also looking at an AC 190xt currently for some extra hp and would be interested in knowing if there was ever a front mount for those. If not will a front mount for a JD or IH fit on any of these tractors?

Thanx in advance.

I think you have your work cut out for you but it is not impossible. I've only seen one non JD or IH 6 row front mount cultivator sell in my life a couple of years ago. It was an Oliver (for a 15, 16,17, or 18 100,50 55 series) and the collectors were out in force at that sale. I think if you are willing to do some adapting then a lot of things will fit whatever you own and that would be my approach. JD and IH's are out there and chances are they are sitting in a shed with an owner not thinking about selling but maybe for scrap. I you are serious about this I would put an ad in the nearest few farm newspapers as far as "wanted to buy." Explain what you are looking for and what you would settle for.

If you can find a 4 row, get a 2 or 4 for parts (gangs). Shouldn"t be hard to extend the frame a bit on each side to hang them from. Most rear mounts come with one stabilizer disc. When I made my 8 row from two smaller ones, I used the second disc so had one near each end. Even had to make one complete gang since one was a parts cult.

Can't help with your question, but I'd suggest part/most of your problem with a rear-mounted cultivator is your use of a 'stay bar'. Should be free to swing and depend on the 'stabilizer/guide disk' to make it track..........

A 6-row would be a test for a 66. A 77 or 88 would be better....
I don't know if narrow row front mounts were around in the era of front-mount cultivators, I suspect that you will have to make one up out of multiple units.
I have a 4-row wide pipe mount set up for hydraulics near Portage, WI. Would sell it if there is any interest. Don't want to sell for scrap.
No rear cultivators, just front.

Send me an email with your phone number. If I get some time this weekend I'l like to swing over and take a look.

Thanks.

Need to double check- but IHC 4 and 6 row narrow cultivators for M to 400 series and for 560 row crops had a manual available for use on Olivers and Case row crops. JD had a utility cultivator- not the quick mount- that was noted to fit AC, Oliver, Case and IHC rowcrops in 2, 4 and 6 row, with a 8 row "vegetable" model avaliable. Point was the adapter manuals were fairly good about the adapter plates and bolts needed. A JD 6 row meant for 60/70, 620/630 and the 4020 might be quick adaptable for your Ollie and be "right" color. JD had the implement division making many "utility" products meant to be usable by other than JD- the corn picker model 227 with the PTO drive could be used on IHC M that didn"t have the belt pulley needed for the IHC picker, was usable on up to IHC 560. Cultivators were another product that had models made for use by other than JD. IHC cultivators on Ollie possible- the one Oliver that father had awhile "till older brother rolled it used many of the IHC stuff from the H and M and I think the 4 row cultivator for M was one piece that was mounted for summers corn and bean field use while M was used for belt use on grinder. Neighbor put several Green cultivators on Red tractors. Not too hard to adapt, bet it will be cheaper/ quicker than waiting to find a different brand.
