Hydraulic Question

I was wondering..

Is there any reason why I couldn't use.. say.. 3/8" High pressure line instead of the normal 1/2" on a drawn cylinder?

The cylinder is what I'd call the "average" size for old implements. Nothing huge or nothing.

The reason I ask is we're having a small plow day on our place this weekend.. I only have one usable cylinder, but I think my dad would possibly enjoy dragging my disc around as we plow with the other tractor, but the usable cylinder is on my plow.

Instead of buying more hoses for something that is rarely used (the disc has covered less than 2 acres in nearly 5 years now, the plow has been longer, but went over more ground) could I just use the 3/8" hoses I had made up for a different application, but no longer use?

I have all the pieces to adapt from the fitting on the hose to my pioneer nipples and the pipe fitting on the cylinder, so no problem there.

I imagine it may "react" a bit slower, which could be lived with.. Like I said, since I'm not farming anymore, the only time I use my tools are to work the garden, and a "play day" such as we're having..

Would it work safely, or would I harm someone or something by doing this? YES, the hoses I plan to use are ok.. They last held pressure this spring, and the oldest set is 4 to 5 years old, and are good for the pressure (wire reinforced weatherhead hose/fittings).

Yes,3/8 hose will be just fine.

I would go for it, all that would happen is the cylinder will work a little slower. Some tractors have restrictors that you can slow a cylinder down if it is working too fast,

I'll work on it after work tomorrow.. Well, right after I get the dual back on my plowin tractor.. Tire man is supposed to be here to mount the inside tire in the am..

If it hasn't been one thing lately, it's been a hundred others.. LOL

Another thing you could do is put the cylinder on the disk and take it out to field and after you lift disk out of transport you can take cylinder off and put it back on plow. No need to raise the disk on the end just for a little afternoon fun.
