Farmall Magneto HELP!

I have a farmall H that my spark tester says is firing properly but when i installed the new distributor it won"t fire. I have installed new points and have tried setting the magnetos gears to change the timing but I still can"t get it to fire from distributor cap. It fires from the top of the magneto but when I plug it in to distributor I can"t get anything.

When you "set the gears" did you find the timing marks on them and do it correctly? If NOT, you might want to paste this link into your browser and read about it in the IH Blue Ribbon Magneto Service Manual:

The small gear has a notch on one tooth and the large gear has two marked C and A, I believe. A typical h4 will be alinged to the A (anti clock wise). If your timing is corect be certain you have a Mag cap not a distributor cap, they are not interchangable.

You have that wrong. A is for the gas start diesels. Put it on C.

I found the mark on the smaller gear but my larger gear has a R and L on it I beleive. I have tried on both and on probably every gear around the larger gear. The mag cap versus distributor cap seems possible but that is the first I have heard of it. I checked the spark in the center of the distributor cap and its good.
