Delivery fee

I have been asked by a buyer of my parade wagon to deliver it to him which is 150 miles one-way. What is a fair price to charge for delivery considering I will have to rent a trailer for about $45 to haul it.

Oops. Forgot to add that the wagon weighs 1,120 pounds and is built on a John Deere 952 running gear just so you know what I'm talking about.

Not sure what your driving, but let's assume you will get 10mpg loaded. That would be 15 gal. of fuel at $4.00 per gallon (I don't know where you are, or what fuel so I'm just rounding up on fuel cost) so thats $60 for fuel one way. Add the trailer rental at $45 and your up to $105 just to get to him. And then you have to drive back home. Lets assume you will get 12 mpg running empty, that's another 12 1/2 gallons of fuel at $4 per gallon or another $50. So your up to $155 your cost, not counting wear and tear, your time and any problems you may have along the way.
I see folks charge $1 per loaded mile now and then, so that would only be $150.
See how quick you can loose money?

That's easy to figure out. Just add rental for the trailer, your time and the cost of fuel and tolls. Add at least 10% as a cushion.

Folks typically charge per loaded mile. I got stuff hauled for $2.00 per loaded mile about 7 years ago, but do not know the current rate.

Might wanna check and see what the local wrecker services charge. I have been doing business with the same service for about 30 years, about 12 years ago he charged me $100.00 to pick up a vehicle 50 miles away and haul it back to my house. Couple months ago he charged $40.00 to haul one about 5 miles.

You can figure a min of $0.50 per mile so if you drive say 300 miles total that is at the very least of $150 that is per Gov figures with a few penny's added

if it has been bought and paid for, around $200>$250 is probably what i would ask for, being that short of distance, pays fuel and lunch, rental, on top of a sale...if haven't been bought and pair for, don't scare them away with a ridiculous price...my opinion

What about insurance? If you rent a trailer, then get paid for hauling you could be in trouble if you had an accident.Your now a commercial hauler and probably not insured.

If you are using a pickup and trailer then $2.00 a loaded mile would cover your cost with a little cushion. In a semi you need $3.00-3.50 a loaded mile to make a living at it. You only get 6-7 mpg on fuel. So that is 60-70 cent per mile just in fuel.

It also makes a difference how good you did on the wagon. If you are making a good profit on it then you may consider some of the cost of delivery marketing cost.

Why haul? That is a good a trailing wagon as ever made and if it is good enough for a parade wagon then there should be no mechanical problems so just use the safty chains you needed to put on for parade use and hook to it and go. May want to buy a trailer licence tag but laws say you are good to go with just an emblem as long as you keep your speed down. I have pulled several not so good at trailing wagons 50 miles with an emblem, just stay to back roads. And I pulled them with my 98 Plymouth Voyager van with the 3.0 and automatic.
