Farmall Super A rear wheel problem

Hi there, I have a 49 Super A with a popping rear wheel. As the tractor tire turns a very audible "pop" happens consistently with each rotation. We inspected the gears and axles which look good and the bearings on first inspection all seem to be in place. Also this problem only occurs when the tractor is moving... If the rear end is hoisted and the wheels are spinning it will not pop. We are assuming that a barring is the cause. Any ideas?

Replace the 5/8 bolts that hold the rim to the center section as they are worn where threads are and wont tighten up unough to get rid of the poping noise. Any bolt store will have new ones get locks and nuts.

Check the holes where the rim mounts on the wheel center. Sounds like one got loose and wore the hole egg shape.

John In 22 years in the tire business we saw this a lot. Usually the bolts holding the rim to the center get loose and the rim brackets wear enough to cause this popping. You can try replacing the bolts, but you usually end up replacing the rim too. If its bad enough you might have to find a new center too.
