I was bushhogging with my 856 when the hydraulic hoses wrapped around the pto shaft, when I repaced the hoses the lift cylinder on the bush hog would not work, oil level is good, brakes and steering works good, pto works good, oil is clean, I changed the filter/ it was not dirty and the fine screen was clean, the 3 point lift does not work now , the remotes and 3 point were working fine before I ripped the hoses from the tractor, your help will be apprecated. thanks

Assuming the hoses were all hooked to the remote's with quick connects, have you checked them to make sure they weren't damaged when the hoses got yanked? If something in the valve mechanism in either fitting got damaged, and is causing it to stick and not open, then the oil can't flow through them and nothing will work.

Too make sure you hooked the lines back up in the same place they came from. I don't know the exact port arrangment on your tractor, but if the mower is power up and gravity down and you have the lines reversed then it's not going to do anything either. If the lines get swapped the line needing pressure would be going to the return port and vice-a-versa, and again nothing is going to work.

One must keep in mind that on the I H tractors you have THREE hyd . pumps One on the MCV that controls steering brakes T/A and cooling. then you have the main hitch pump that controls your three point and remotes. the PTO has it's own pump. as to what happened here i am not sure at this time . IF the hitch is all the way up and will not go down then i would say that for some unknown reason that she jumped the draft control linkage off the upper arm . But if it is down and will not come up then either your pump took a dump for what ever reason or the unloading valve is messed up. since i can not check it out myself i am shooten in the dark.

brakes, steering,ta,pto work fine, 3 point and remotes worked fine before I ripped the hoses from the tractor, 3 point and remotes are dead now, 3point is in the down position, I changed the filter, old filter was clean and the oil is clean too, fine screen is also clean. Is it possible to damage the pump or seals by rapid release of pressure?

thanks Claybone

I am leaning more to the unloading valve , but what is wrong there don't know for sure there are several could bee's . Could be a plugged orifice , sticking unloading valve piston or the check ball not seating for what ever reason. like i said i can not check it out myself.

I have a 656 and it won,t work with 3 point all the way down move to middle and will pick up. also if I am talking about same valve mech had to reset mine after putting a used one on. it would just releave. my valve was under the seat had to remove it and then a cover. at the time my pump was putting out what relief valve was set good luck

I am not familer with the unloading valve, where is it located and does this valve controle both the remotes and 3 point,

thanks Claybone

Had a similar thing happen last fall to a customer friend of mine. He plugged the grain auger and shock load on pto sheared the key on hydraulic pump. I had a rather hard time believing this but it happened. Shaft and gear were in perfect shape. They are usually worn when they shear a key. You can tell if the rear pump is pumping, turning at all if you take the plug out of the side of pump. If it is the oil will shoot out so be careful. If unloading valve was stuck the hitch would work by holding a aux valve on demand deadheaded.

The unloading valve is located in the right seat support on the ft. , Pete also has a good idea on the sheared key on the pump .. Get yourself atleast a I T manual on your tractor then you will see what we are talking about.

thank you all for the very helpful info,I got an IT manual and will pull pump when I can find a break in my work,I pulled a line off my remote block , nothing was there , I am thinking a sheared key on the lift pump,it may be a while before I work on this but I will let you all know what I find out.

thanks Claybone

I got time to pull the lift pump on my 856 today,I got my IT book out just like the Vet suggested, the key was sheared ,repaced key with new o-rings, everything works great again, you guys nailed it, after the info you gave me I was pretty sure it had to be the key sheared in the lift pump, before your great information I didn t know where to start, THANKS VET,PETE.AND ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP
