Drying bin burner

We've got a Sukup burner that's been out of service a number of years, got a couple questions. 1). How do you get the axle tube out of the bin, (the pipe that all the stir augers hang on) the gear box broke off the end of it. 2).There is a coil of fuel pipe in front of the burner in the path of the flame. On the outside is a thumb screw that tightens on this coil, so you can slide it in or out. What is the purpose of this adjustment? Thanks, Fritz

Sounds like the vaporizer coil. This burner runs on liquid propane, correct?
The adjustment is to regulate how hot the vaporized gas gets before it goes into the burner. On Farm Fans / GSI units, we say that the piping to the valves should be comfortable to touch, not too hot or frosting up.

2) The coil is just to put a little heat on the fuel to help vaporize it, because unlike most other propane fueled items, this one is fed liquid from the tank. The coil can be centered in the flame, and moved into or away from the flame. I never found that adjustment to be critical.
1) I've never tried to remove a stirrer. Which end broke off? The center drive gear motor, or the reversing gear box on the outer end? Did one end of the tube drop? On my stirrer, once the carriages and augers were undone, it would be simple to unbolt the center bearing carrier, and then lift the outer end of the stirrer tube off the track, and let it down. (Provided you can walk on air!) I have climbed down through the center hole, around the spreader, to get to the shear pin on the stirrer gear motor drive. I would guess one person there with a rope, and one on the outer end of the tube with a rope, could let the tube down.

Sukup rhymes with another famous word which describes their product. Outer end of the main tube rests on the angle iron bolted to the bin wall, the inner end hangs from a steel frame. Rent some portable scaffolding to set inside to get to it.

The end where the reverse box is. Shaft (about 1-1/8") sheared off clean. Outer two stir augers screwed into floor, and tripped breakers. Got the augers out and the floor fixed, end of tube hanging from track with a come-along. I'm liking that scaffold idea. Thanks for all the info. Fritz
