O?T River Flooding, Keeping fingers crossed.

We have had more than our share of rain this week. The Susquehanna river in Northeast PA is set to crest at 38 feet. The levee protects to 41 feet. I worked for the county, on the levee system in 1972 when the Wyoming Valley flooded from hurricain Agnes. Here I am again 39 years later working on the levee system. I am seasonal now but the work is the same. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one. I live on a Mtn overlooking the river but I still would not like anyone to loose property, things are tough enough.

Hey, it is all New Yorks fault, just kidding LOL. However the water does come from the Chemung water shed area. Hope you New York guys don't beat me up on this.

Whoa, hey now.... er uh ...... Irene, that's who you need to hold accountable, last I heard she went over Nova Scotia, and Lee is right behind her.

Its hard to believe how much flooding, and destruction there is, mostly due to being a 100 year or several hundred year event, all the valleys and low areas between mountains have been hammered around here, we lost one lane of a state road a few miles from here last week, glad this one gave us a glancing blow, only a week out from the last one, crazy weather.

I remember hurricane Agnes. Dad took us for a ride down to Elmira and Corning and I still can remember the mud a good ten to fifteen feet up on some of the buildings. When I went to college down at Alfred ten years after Hurricane Agnes that storm was still large in the local's mind and permanently ruined a fair amount of agricultural land in Allegany County. I would like to see the Mount Morris dam near capacity. Anytime it has gotten close I could never spare the time to go and look.

heavy rain today in York County, PA. I cross the Conowingo Dam each morning. I'll be counting the open flood gates tomorrow. Watch out Port Deposit!!!

i'm 20 miles east of binghamton, on the susquehanna.
10 days ago, Irene washed out the lane where the cows go out to the pasture. i had it repaired the next day.

Lee started early this morning by 1030 am, the lane looked like the picture again. we're at somewhere around 6" of rain so far, and more is coming tonight. some of the corn on the flat is already under water. towns are evacuating low lying houses.

My BIL lives in Abbotstown called around 9 PM
( just a bit ago) said "They had at least 10" today.

Yo Rollie-

We are getting it just as bad up here in the Owego, NY area.

But--you've got to get yourself correct about this--it's Bush's fault!.

Rollie,

I am 200+ miles farther down the susquehanna,

about 1000 ft south of the pa line and 3 miles

west of the river.

Whatever you see up there it will be bigger

when it gets here.

Northvale,

If you live in york co and cross the

river at conowingo dam, you are traveling

very close to me. Iam on prospect rd between

slateville church and rt 136 .

Do you travel flintville rd or 136 ?

george

I am about 11 miles west of Abbottstown and judging by water in buckets left out I would agree that we had 10+ inches yesterday. Not raining right now (7:30 Thursday Morning), but forecast looks like more coming later.

Stay dry if you can,

Kirk

Port Deposit, Perryville and Havre De Grace will get hit hard from this flooding I'm about 20 miles from the Conowingo Dam between Cecil and Harford county. They were thinking about blowing that dam during Agnes. That storm killed all my baby Purple Martins and I never had Martins after that. The blowing rain blew into the nests and drowned them. Hal

RT 136 down from Whiteford. 26 flood gates open this morning, here is photo crossing. over 40 tonight. Dam is closed to vehicles.
