OT Major Milestone

Hit a major milestone this past weekend, on Friday they poured the footings and the slab for our barn at our future home. (building the barn first, then going to sell our house, store stuff in the barn and either rent a apartment or live there in our RV while the house is built.)

Started this project in May of 2009, cleared many tree's, built nearly 1,400' of driveway, moved a lot of dirt with our JD4510 and CAT 935c. However this milestone moved us from earth movers to builders. Exciting stuff.

Installing french drain and downspout drainage pipes this weekend, and then the block work will begin. 810 blocks to be layed. Standard stick framing building for the rest. Metal roof and sides are planned. I'll share pics as we go. Hope to have it dried in before winter. This is South Carolina, winter is 3 + months away, however I only have weekends.

PS The building is 42'x50', monitor style. The forms in front are for the 46'x12' apron in front.

Really looks nice. We did our house about 10 years ago and we did as much as was possible, all electrical, alarm system, built in vacuum, all doors and trim, all window trim, all floors, tile and laminent, all kitchen cabinets and appliances and did some painting plus the outside grading, seeding, etc. It was a lot of work but well worth the satisfaction we got from doing it. You appear to be off to a good start. Lots of luck and have fun!

Looks good Lloyd, but even our winters are mild here.....Might catch a break like we did a couple of years ago and have 80 degree weather in December!!

Congratulations. Very nice. I am envious. We have built two houses, several barns, and several grain bins. I've said never again, but I might consider another house, if I could build it right next to yours! I'm going to have to get away from this northeast climate for part of the year if I am going to live into old age! The Howells' place in TX looks attractive also, but what can you do without water? It's been a terrible crop year here, but we're not burned up, nor washed away (yet) !

Watched the progress on the gate. If the building turns out as nice as the gate you have it made. I built the barn/shop on the farm and we used it as living quarters while we built the house. Nice being there close. Be prepared the first 75% goes great and does not take long it is that blasted finishing up that kills the budget and your time. Sixty Seven years old and have built 4 homes in my life nothing like it..WHEN IT IS FINISHED .

Looks good, Lloyd. I like the palmetto tree and crescent, since I'm in SC also. Where are you located? I thinke you've told me but don't remember.

Been that way on hwy 49 when going to Charlotte through the country.

The old store in Sharon is interesting.

Like that gate Lloyd! Always wondered where you were at; I am between York & Clover so not far away. The projects look great!
