My name is Michael Avant. I have a 1947 Ford 8n. I have recently put an electronic ignition on it. It has a new carburetor. It will not start. I am thinking that I may of gotten it out of timing some how. Does anyone know where the timing hole cover is on a 1947 Ford 8n. I need to line up the markings If they are not lined up.
Need help please. My email address is [email protected].

Mike , post your question down on the 2n,9n,8n board ...The place is packed with experts.......A quick search will prolly come up with answer....

1.) If it WAS running WHY would you think it "got out of time? (IMPOSSIBLE unless the camshaft gear broke) anyhow, the most UNLIKELY scenario for any tractor that has been running and now won't run.)

2.) See the link below for how to time it.

3.) Archie, kill off any major corporations lately? (Oh, I forgot, you're DEAD!

I had to take the distributor off. There is a tang on the back of the distributor that fits into the tang of the cam shaft. I didn"t get it in there right. I turn the engine over. I watched the rotor button. It didn"t move. I took the distributor back off. I took number one spark plug out. I put my finger over the plug hole and turned it over. When my finger was blown off the hole I stopped. I realigned the two tangs and got the rotor button pointing to number one plug wire as close as possible. The tractor will not start. I am ready to get rid of this thing at this point. Don"t know what to do?

Bob I don't have points anymore. I put an electronic ignition in. I don't have a condenser either. On this electronic ignition there is a hot wire that hooks to the ignition switch. The top of the coil where the ignition switch used to hook up is now a ground. There is spark at the plug wires now. It just won't start. Maybe I have a fuel problem. I don't know how. The carburetor is brand new.

ou have a spark.........then stop looking at ignition & timing. Install new spark plugs , keep gas off, spray starting fluid into intake, throttle open, start.
