Possibly looking at a few 02 and 03 dodge 3/4 tons with V10's at an upcoming auction. I don't know much about dodges and less about the V10's, just wondering if they were a descent engine and if they had any problems to look out for. Also, about what price range would they fall in, I did a blue book value over the computer and they listed at around 5000 in fair condition, not sure on the miles of these pickups, havent looked at them in person yet. I am guessing they are between 150,000 and 200,000.

Thanks for any information.

We didn't see that many common problems with the v-10 when I worked for Dodge except for customers complaining about very bad fuel economy. If it were me I would consider the diesel. The common issues with the diesel that I saw were lift pumps, an occasional cracked exhaust manifold and some automatic trans. problems. Some transmission problems can be avoided by simply not towing a heavy load in overdrive

I had a V-10 in a dodge one ton dually. Towed with it all the time. Empty you can expect 14-17 MPG. You can buy a lot of gas before you exceed the operating and maintanence (sp) cost of a diesel. I would buy an other one in a heatbeat. I put on over 170K without and problems. Just changed the oil, and one set of sparkplugs.

I spent a lot of years as a line tech in a Chrysler dealership. I have worked on a number of the V10s. The only common problem that I can remember is seeing a few cracked heads.

they pull pretty good but last I heard was engine parts like rod/main brgs. are non-existant. People that have them around here are pretty much stuck with them and it would be easier to sell a family sized dose of bubonic plague!

Are those government trucks? Some of them sit around and idle all day long every day but don't get many miles. Watch out for that.

I have a 1996 v10 100900 miles. It has a rebuilt auto transmission, one tie rod, new rear shocks and brake cylinders, plus tires and gas, and a battery. Its kinda fun to pass cars going uphill pulling a 8000 pound travel trailer. Priceless. And always starts and goes in winter.

I have a 96 Dodge 3500 with the V10. Like others have said it has the power. I use mine to pull my mowing tractors. Mine doesn't get the best milage, but it does the job. Stan
